Position Overview:

As a Structural Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering structural engineering solutions across various projects, with a particular focus on new and existing institutional, commercial and residential buildings. From concept design to detailed design and construction, you will apply your expertise to design new structures, evaluate existing structures, provide innovative solutions, and support our commitment to excellence.

General Responsibilities:

  • Marketing: Represent Sense Engineering professionally, building positive relationships with clients, contractors and other consultants.
  • Knowledge Development: Enhance your technical expertise and stay current on industry trends and best practices.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Design and analyze structures or structural components for new construction, renovation and restoration projects.
  • Evaluate existing buildings, leveraging knowledge of diverse materials and structural systems.
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, reports, and specifications.
  • Prepare evaluation reports, construction documents, and project proposals.
  • Support project delivery by providing input into the development of project budgets when required.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and team members to ensure project success.
  • Conduct site reviews and contract administration inspections and provide guidance during construction.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and consultants to ensure seamless communication.
  • Represent Sense at client meetings and other networking functions with a commitment to exceptional service standards.
  • Support junior engineers and knowledge sharing within Sense.
  • Occasional travel within Canada required, with the majority of projects to be within Ontario.
  • Other duties as assigned/required.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience within a structural engineering firm, preferably involving existing buildings and new construction of institutional, commercial and residential buildings.
  • Strong technical expertise in structural engineering and materials.
  • Registered or actively pursuing registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Proficiency with structural design software (e.g., S-Frame, ETABS, spSlab) and familiarity with AutoCAD or Revit.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and relationship building skills with a proven ability to build trust with clients and contractors.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office tools, including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail coupled with a client-centric mindset.
  • Team player who is eager to learn, contribute, and grow in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to creative thinking and approaching challenges from fresh perspectives, with a strong commitment to continuous learning and fostering a culture of knowledge sharing within the organization.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation required.
