Job description

Racing is where our story began.
In 1901, Henry Ford climbed into a car he built himself-"Sweepstakes"-and beat America's most famous driver. He wasn't a racer, but he had to win. He did. Ford Motor Company was born from that victory.
That fighting spirit lives on in Ford Racing today. We're the engineers, strategists, and competitors who bring Ford's track-tested edge into every vehicle we build. Every track, every stage, every proving ground-that's where we prove ourselves.
The result: one of the world's most iconic brands, legendary nameplates, and a team unmatched in the industry.
Our mantra: Race to win, engineer to lead.
If you're a competitor, innovator, or performance obsessive, Ford Racing is where you belong. Help us write the next chapter.
In this position...
This pivotal role requires a dynamic individual with a proven track record in delivering complete powertrain systems from concept to production. This individual should have a strong knowledge of research processes, understand how technology can be fast tracked into production, and understand the fundamentals to deliver a high-quality design from concept to production. We want someone with a passion for high-performance vehicles, and a wide network of connections within the powertrain driveline and underbody engineering communities.
This role is hybrid and requires at least 4 days per week onsite in Allen Park, MI.
Responsibilities
What you'll do...
  • Lead the conceptual layout and delivery of a new driveline system
  • Manage program delivery of quality, cost, weight, function and timing from concept through to production
  • Coordinate and manage outside engineering and design resources Interface with core technical specialists to ensure delivery of a quality system design
  • Function as primary technical interface with manufacturing engineering to ensure the system fits with the process and meets commercial needs
  • Technical management of all interface complexities with neighboring systems
  • Support vehicle program/platform teams to address functional vehicle performance attributes
  • Technical leadership for prototype builds
  • Technical leadership for problem resolution
  • This position requires a person with significant depth of knowledge in complete engine/powertrain/transmission/driveline/underbody/fuel/cooling and HVAC systems engineering. This includes engines, transmissions, transfer cases, 'prop' shafts, planetary gear sets, clutch systems and differentials, as well as filesystems, cooling systems and other underbody powertrain systems. Finally understanding of active powertrain controls and calibration as well as aftertreatment systems is desired.
  • We are pushing boundaries and need someone that understands the technical aspects of delivering vehicle powertrain systems for the high performance, low volume market.
  • This requires a team player that can lead others to solve tough issues, leverage core resources, and resolve technical issues with limited oversight.
  • This person needs to be positioned to immediately pull in significant technical expertise to solve issues and keep the program on track.
  • Technical oversight of this program will include a strong understanding of program management and project deliverables that align with Ford GPDS deliverables.

Qualifications
You'll have...
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the development of complete powertrain and underbody systems, with a strong emphasis on high performance applications.
  • Proven experience delivering multiple high-performance powertrain and underbody systems from concept and launch through production.

Even better, you may have...
  • In-depth knowledge of automotive powertrain systems, current & future.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects from conception to completion, meeting tight deadlines and budgetary constraints.
  • Significant experience working directly with manufacturing facilities, including successful resolution of complex production and quality issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to inspire and motivate team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey tough technical issues to non-technical stakeholders effectively.

As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home? Will your career be a deep dive into what you love, or a series of new teams and new skills? Will you be a leader, a changemaker, a technical expert, a culture builder...or all of the above?
