    About the Diesel Technician Position

    As a Diesel Technician with First Student, you will help maintain and repair school buses to ensure safety and reliability.

    Diesel Technician Responsibilities
    • Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our passengers
    • Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle maintenance
    • Repair and inspect brake systems
    • Perform engine tune-ups, suspension repairs, drivetrain repairs, transmission repairs, clutch repairs, and other maintenance activities
    • Perform preventive maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections
    • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems
    • Complete work orders accurately and maintain service documentation
    • Assist with mobile emergency repair services when needed
    • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
    • Follow all company safety and maintenance procedures
    Diesel Technician Qualifications
    • Minimum of 3+ years of diesel, fleet, bus, truck, heavy equipment, or automotive maintenance and repair experience, or equivalent technical school education and experience
    • Strong vehicle diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
    • Valid driver's license required
    • CDL Class B or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment (company-paid training provided)
    • Possession of a mechanic's tool set required
    • Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program (training, testing, and pay increases provided)
    • Strong computer and documentation skills
    • School bus, fleet, transit, municipal, or heavy truck experience preferred
    Additional Requirements

    This position is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to DOT drug testing.

    DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
