Position Overview

EP Inspections + Commissioning (EPIC) is a growing, Class 1 Special Inspection Agency based in Lower Manhattan. We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and ambitious Entry-Level Special Inspector to join our growing engineering and construction inspection team in New York City on a Part-Time schedule, working a maximum of 28 hours per week. This role is ideal for a recent college graduate with a degree in Civil, Structural, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field who is eager to launch their career in the NYC construction industry.

As a Special Inspector, you will work directly on active construction sites, ensuring that buildings and infrastructure comply with the New York City Building Code (NYCBC) and approved construction documents. You will receive comprehensive, hands-on training and mentorship from senior engineers and certified inspectors to obtain your professional certifications.

This is a great opportunity for an entry level graduate to gain experience in the design and construction industry. Although this is not a design role, you will witness how a conceptual design comes to life, and problems that arise when something looks good on paper but lacks vision in constructability. Field experience is invaluable for engineers that plan to continue their career in design, as well as professionals who choose a career path in special inspections.

·        You will be working under direct supervision of a Professional Engineer, who could attest to your experience on the NCEES record

Responsibilities

•  Assist EPIC inspectors and engineers on special inspection field visits across active NYC construction projects

•  Help prepare and maintain daily inspection reports, field logs, and schedules

•  Observe field construction for general compliance with construction documents, specifications, and applicable building codes

•  Support the production of progress and final inspection reports under the supervision of the firm’s Special Inspection PE

•  Provide day-to-day support to the EPIC team on a variety of tasks as needed

Qualifications

•  Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Structural, Civil, Geotechnical or a related engineering discipline (preferred)

•  No prior field or special inspection experience required. Training will be provided

•  Ambitious, highly motivated, and eager to learn and grow within the firm

•  Reliable, detail-oriented, and a strong communicator

•  Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

•  Able to commute to and work on active construction sites in the New York City area

Compensation

Starting Pay: $30.00 – $35.00 per hour

*Maximum 28 hours per week.
