    Job Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
    Contract Duration: July 19, 2026 – October 17, 2026
    Shift: Nights | 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3x12s)

    Position Summary

    Summa Health is seeking experienced Medical Surgical Registered Nurses (RNs) to join the H5 Medical Surgical Unit at Akron Campus. This fast-paced 36-bed unit provides comprehensive care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients requiring medical and surgical hospitalization. Nurses will care for a diverse patient population and must be comfortable managing varying patient assignments throughout their shift while delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
     

    Unit Overview

    The H5 Medical Surgical Unit specializes in caring for patients with:

    • General Surgery
    • Colorectal Surgery
    • Abdominal Surgeries
    • Mastectomy & Thyroidectomy Procedures
    • Urology & Uro-Gynecology
    • Gynecologic Oncology
    • Women's Health
    • Plastic Surgery
    • ENT Procedures
    • Trauma Patients
    • Cardiothoracic Cases
    • Orthopedic & Spine/Neuro Overflow
    • Obstetrical Complications including:
      • Hyperemesis
      • Preeclampsia
      • Intra-Uterine Fetal Demise (IUFD)
      • Substance Abuse Withdrawal During Pregnancy
      • Diabetic Pregnancies

    Patient Ratio: 1:5–6

    Key Responsibilities
    • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for medical and surgical patients.
    • Monitor patient conditions and respond to changes appropriately.
    • Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders.
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes.
    • Utilize Epic EMR for documentation and patient care management.
    • Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans and discharge instructions.
    • Float to other appropriate units as required.
    • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
    Required Qualifications
    • Active Registered Nurse (RN) License.
    • Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program.
    • Minimum 2 years of recent Medical Surgical nursing experience.
    • Recent Epic EMR experience within the last 12 months (must be reflected on resume).
    • Current BLS Certification (AHA).
    • Current ACLS Certification.
    • Current NIH Stroke Scale Certification.
    • Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.
    • Strong communication, assessment, and critical-thinking skills.
