Job Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Salary Range : $180000 to $200000 + Benefits

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the financial operations and fiscal strategy of a Florida-based nonprofit organization. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CFO will provide strategic and operational financial leadership while partnering with executive leadership, the finance team, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and Audit Committee.

The CFO will ensure financial activities comply with GAAP, applicable IRS and regulatory requirements, and nonprofit accounting practices. This hands-on leadership role oversees financial reporting, budgeting, audit and tax, cash and investment management, accounts receivable/payable, internal controls, procurement, grants, and financial policies.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior financial leader and strategic advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team.
• Develop and oversee financial policies, procedures, internal controls, pricing, vendor contracts, procurement, and long-range financial planning.
• Support and present financial guidance to the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Finance Committee, and Audit Committee.
• Direct accounting and fiscal functions in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting requirements.
• Oversee accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including balance sheets, income statements, cash-flow statements, accounts receivable aging, and management/Board reports.
• Lead annual operating budget development and the three-year strategic plan budget.
• Develop financial models, forecasts, and analysis; monitor budgets, financial performance, trends, risks, opportunities, and variances.
• Lead the annual external audit, including work papers, supporting documentation, expense substantiation, scheduling, auditor coordination, and resolution of findings.
• Oversee applicable IRS returns, including Form 990 and/or 990-T, tax filings, County Ad Valorem tax filings, and applicable tax-exempt status requirements.
• Maintain compliance with applicable financial, tax, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
• Oversee banking, cash flow, working capital, liquidity, deposits, and investment activities; work with external investment advisors on Board-approved strategies.
• Oversee accounts receivable, billing, invoicing, collections, and strategies to minimize delinquent accounts and bad-debt write-offs.
• Oversee accounts payable, liabilities, expenditures, cash disbursements, authorization, documentation, and financial record retention.
• Support grant financial administration, including grant budgets, expenditures, reporting requirements, documentation, and controls.
• Provide financial oversight of procurement, including solicitations, bid evaluations, awarding processes, commitments, and encumbrances.
• Lead the finance team, oversee daily finance and accounting activities, establish performance expectations, ensure deadlines are met, and support professional development and training.
• Build a culture of accountability, accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Current CPA certification required.
• MBA required.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related discipline; accounting degree or demonstrated ownership of accounting functions required.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant and demonstrable financial/accounting experience.
• Minimum 6 years of demonstrated accounting ownership, including responsibility for successful audits.
• Significant experience leading financial operations at a senior level.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial practices.
• Demonstrated experience managing external audits.
• Strong experience with budgeting, financial modeling, forecasting, and financial reporting.
• Experience with tax filings, regulatory financial requirements, grants, and grant financial reporting.
• Experience with NetSuite or another enterprise ERP system.
• Previous nonprofit accounting or CFO experience preferred.
• Experience working with a Board of Directors, Finance Committee, or Audit Committee preferred.
• Experience with investment management and financial advisors preferred.
• Experience in technology, telecommunications, higher education, research, or infrastructure-related organizations preferred.
• Familiarity with networking, telecommunications, or large-scale technology infrastructure preferred.
• Experience with complex vendor contracts, customer pricing, procurement, or grant-funded organizations preferred.
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strategic and hands-on approach with strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities.
• Ability to communicate complex accounting and financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
• Comfortable presenting to executive leadership and Board committees.
• Highly organized, adaptable, diplomatic, and effective in managing competing priorities and deadlines.
• Strong project management skills with a high degree of accountability and attention to detail.
