    Job description

Mass General Brigham is seeking a fellowship-trained, Board Certified/Board Eligible Orthopedic Hand Surgeon to join our growing Orthopedic Service in Northampton, Massachusetts.

This is an outstanding opportunity to build a comprehensive hand and upper extremity practice while becoming part of the broader Mass General Brigham Orthopedic Service-one of the premier musculoskeletal programs in the country. Physicians enjoy the close-knit culture and autonomy of a community practice while benefiting from the collaboration, innovation, and clinical expertise of an internationally recognized academic health system.

    About Cooley Dickinson Hospital

Located in the heart of Northampton, Cooley Dickinson Hospital has proudly served the Pioneer Valley for more than 140 years and is recognized for delivering exceptional, patient-centered community care. As a member of Mass General Brigham, Cooley Dickinson combines the personalized experience of a trusted community hospital with the strength, resources, and reputation of one of the nation's leading integrated academic health systems.

Our orthopedic practice has earned a strong reputation throughout Western Massachusetts, supported by long-standing relationships with primary care providers, rehabilitation specialists, emergency medicine providers, sports medicine physicians, and referring clinicians across the region.

    A Connected Orthopedic Network

This opportunity represents more than joining a local orthopedic practice-it is an opportunity to become part of the evolving Mass General Brigham Orthopedic Service.

Our orthopedic teams across the system are working together to create a highly collaborative network that brings together nationally recognized specialists, community-based surgeons, and multidisciplinary musculoskeletal experts to deliver exceptional patient care throughout Massachusetts.

As part of this growing enterprise, you'll have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across the Mass General Brigham system while maintaining the autonomy, continuity, and patient relationships that make community practice so rewarding. Whether through clinical collaboration, education, quality improvement, or professional development, you'll be connected to one of the largest and most respected orthopedic networks in New England.

    What You'll Do

    • Join a high-performing orthopedic service line with subspecialty expertise in Sports Medicine, Shoulder, Hand, Foot & Ankle, Adult Reconstruction, and Arthroscopic Joint Preservation, supported by an on-site non-surgical sports medicine physiatrist.

    • Practice alongside a collaborative team of five orthopedic surgeons, one physiatrist, and five Advanced Practice Providers in a newly expanded, state-of-the-art facility designed to support efficient, team-based care.

    • Build a comprehensive hand and upper extremity practice treating elective, traumatic, and degenerative conditions of the hand, wrist, and upper extremity.

    • Share in a collegial general orthopedic call schedule (currently 1:5) with a team committed to balanced coverage.

    • Provide care in Northampton, Amherst, and West Hatfield with access to advanced imaging, occupational and hand therapy, physical therapy, rehabilitation, and wellness services.

    • Benefit from structured mentoring, peer collaboration, and professional development opportunities across both the local orthopedic team and the broader Mass General Brigham Orthopedic Service.

    Why Northampton?

Nestled in the scenic Pioneer Valley, Northampton offers an outstanding quality of life with a vibrant downtown, nationally recognized restaurants, thriving arts community, excellent schools, and endless outdoor recreation.

    • Hiking, mountain biking, skiing, kayaking, and year-round outdoor recreation.

    • A lively downtown featuring restaurants, music venues, galleries, and local shops.

    • The intellectual energy of the Five College Consortium, including UMass Amherst, Amherst College, Smith College, Hampshire College, and Mount Holyoke College.

    • Convenient access to Boston, Hartford, the Berkshires, and New York City.

    Why Mass General Brigham?

    • Competitive compensation with a transparent and rewarding incentive plan.

    • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, retirement, and malpractice benefits.

    • Generous paid time off and CME support.

    • Flexible scheduling designed to support long-term career satisfaction and work-life integration.

    • Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) eligibility through our 501(c)(3) organization.

    • A culture grounded in collaboration, innovation, diversity, and exceptional patient care.

    Ready to Join Us?

If you're looking for a hand surgery opportunity that combines the collegial atmosphere of a community practice with the collaboration, resources, and reputation of Mass General Brigham, we'd love to hear from you.
