Job description

Overview

MG2, an affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design is currently looking for a Senior Architectural Project Designer to join our Community Environments Market team in New York, NY! You will be working in our Community Environments (CE) Market, whereby joining you’ll have the unique opportunity to design and deliver healthy, thriving mixed-use communities.


Our new Senior Project Designer will lead design teams and oversee all phases of the design process, including design integration and coordination efforts with interior design staff and external consultants. Project Designers at this level will primarily focus on more complex project types and/or oversee multiple streams of work. They are responsible for managing the overall performance of the design staff while actively engaging in training and mentoring of their teams. Individuals in this role will also contribute their expertise to various design-related tasks throughout the firm, including cross-market collaborations and firm-wide strategic initiatives.


Responsibilities
  • Lead design teams through the completion of comprehensive design solutions and production of all design deliverables including conceptual plans and elevations, detailed design documentation, 3D renderings, and all required exhibits.
  • Oversee the performance and execution of design teams including collaboration with architectural staff and external consultants.
  • Work collaboratively with multiple project teams on projects of varying types and scale. This includes a detailed understanding of how jurisdictional requirements, client standards, constructibility, and programmatic guidelines impact and inform concept designs. Designers in this role may oversee the work of teams in various markets and/or studios.
  • Possess a comprehensive and detailed understanding of architectural construction documents, constructibility, and design translation. Individuals in this role will provide guidance on all types of design deliverables to both architectural and design staff.
  • Oversee project team design meetings; provide support to Project Managers and Designers as needed.
  • Oversee QA/QC reviews of all design deliverables and relevant portions of architectural construction documents; ensure design intent is maintained throughout all project phases.
  • Review detailed project specifications for all design related considerations. Collaborate with specification writers, sustainable material specialists, product representatives, and Project Managers to finalize overall project specifications; coordinate with interior designers as required based on scope and scale of project.
  • Monitor project construction activities and Construction Administration procedures; provide guidance and review of design related RFIs and submittals as required.
  • Lead production of design deliverables used in RFP/RFQ responses and marketing proposals.
  • Assist with development of new project proposals; including generating appropriate design fees based on a prescribed scope of work.
  • Align design deliverable production with corresponding project schedules and workplans.
  • Ensure design staff are properly integrated as part of the overall project team.
  • Review financial health of projects in conjunction with Project Managers and studio leadership; focus on design related tasks and deliverables.
  • Oversee consistent adoption of all Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Monitor project performance and forecasts while managing risks and issues in the work.
  • Perform monthly 1:1 check-ins with all internal team members. (People Managers Only)
  • Conduct mid-year check-ins and year-end performance reviews (People Managers Only)

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in a professional architecture or design firm.
  • Certification as a licensed professional preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in design management, including detailed understanding of design translation, consultant coordination, constructability, and design documentation standards.
  • Experience with milestone-based project delivery.
  • Ability to oversee multiple design teams through the completion of complex design projects in alignment with an overall project schedule and budget.
  • Detailed understanding of business operations and project financial management.
  • Demonstrated expertise with design visualization software including Revit, Sketch-Up, Auto-CAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Affinity, VRay, and Enscape.
  • Proficiency with collaboration software such as Bluebeam, Miro, and Teams.
  • Ability to balance strategic initiatives with billable work.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Compensation: $100,000 to $150,000 per year (depending on qualifications)
