Job description

Overview
Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our Civil/Site team in Toledo, OH! The Civil/Site Engineer will be a key member of the Civil/Site design team, working on a variety of residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use land development projects. Responsibilities include site feasibility and conceptual planning, stormwater management, grading, drainage, utility design, erosion and sediment control, and permitting. As a Civil/Site Engineer, you may also conduct permitting research, due diligence, write specifications and reports. The Civil/Site Engineer will work within AutoCAD Civil 3D and alongside the design team managers, and other Disciplines, to successfully complete projects within established budgets and deadlines.
We engage with our clients as a strategic partner providing complete civil and site consulting and engineering services to both public and private clients. This partnership begins with comprehensive site feasibility evaluations as part of the due diligence process to identify potential pitfalls and implement strategies to overcome them. We have extensive experience in traditional residential development as well as commercial project types including office, retail, financial, educational, restaurant, mixed-use, healthcare, landfill, energy, industrial, and warehouse.

Responsibilities
  • Design land development projects using Civil 3D including site, grading, and utilities.
  • Review of municipal zoning and land development ordinances and applicable agency regulations to determine land development limitations for the property.
  • Site Investigation & Due Diligence includes the review of ordinances, utility service research, outside agency regulations, and site visits to establish comprehensive development guidelines.
  • Preparation of Concept Drawings based upon client's development objectives and conclusions of due diligence. Involves preparation of concept plan, including coordination with AutoCAD draftsmen.
  • Leadership role in the review and design of Stormwater Management & Stormwater Conveyance Systems including use of AutoCAD Civil 3D and Hydrology design software.
  • Skills should include preparation of pipe sizing calculations for stormwater conveyance systems including drainage area maps.
  • Surface runoff coefficients, invert, slope, velocity & hydraulic grade line evaluation using the Rational Method & Manning's Equation.
  • Knowledge of stormwater management design regulations.
  • Grading design to ensure value engineering is achieved through earthwork analysis, and site safety is accomplished using appropriate design slopes.
  • Subdivision and site plan design and layout.
  • Design of utility systems including stormwater conveyance, sanitary sewer service, pump station design, water, gas, telephone service, etc. Also involves determination and resolution of vertical and horizontal utility conflicts that may exist.
  • Soil erosion & sediment control design including stability calculations, best management practices, swale design, spillway design, and determination of construction sequence.
  • Preparation of Construction Cost Estimates based upon site plan drawings as required for bonding and client purposes.
  • Potential to take an active leadership role and guide junior staff.
  • Work closely with the Infrastructure department to help with utility coordination and municipal utility design for complex highway and bridge projects.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering is required.
  • 4 to 12+ years of related land development (civil/site) experience is required.
  • EIT (Engineer in Training) certification is required. PE licensed or working towards licensure is preferred.
  • Demonstrated Civil 3D skills with the ability to design site layouts concept through completion.
  • Experience with MicroStation, HydroCAD, WaterCAD, HEC-HMS/-RAS, OpenRoads, and InRoads is a plus.
  • Prior experience with business development, project management, client facing, or estimating costs is a plus.
  • Proficiency in technical skills in storm water management, hydraulics, hydrological analysis, grading and other site development related designs.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
