Job Description

Job Duties:
Lead and supervise HVAC, refrigeration, general maintenance, and construction work throughout the facility.
Schedule, assign, prioritize, inspect, and participate in preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance.
Serve as a technical expert for HVAC and refrigeration problems, repairs, and equipment.
Coordinate maintenance projects and work assignments with other supervisors to make sure staff and resources are used efficiently.
Determine the labor, materials, equipment, and resources needed to complete projects.
Approve and initiate requisitions for materials and supplies.
Maintain accurate repair records, documentation, and technical reports.
Review technical information and use it to help make maintenance and repair decisions.
Use HVAC/refrigeration tools, equipment, and testing instruments to diagnose and resolve problems.
Train and supervise inmate maintenance and construction workers.
Ensure work complies with applicable safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Assist with maintaining the security of inmates assigned to maintenance work.
Work with considerable independence and make decisions with minimal supervision.
You'd be a GOOD fit if:
You have a high school diploma or GED
You have 4 years of fulltime, paid experience operating, maintaining, or repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems and equipment.
OR you meet one of the approved education/training substitutions:
Associate's degree in HVAC/Refrigeration plus 2 years of experience.
HVAC/Refrigeration trade or technical school program plus 3 years of experience.
U.S. military HVAC/Refrigeration technical training plus 3 years of experience.
You have a current EPAapproved Universal Refrigerant Containment Certification and can maintain the required certification for continued employment.
You understand HVAC and refrigeration maintenance practices and troubleshooting.
You can organize and prioritize multiple maintenance projects.
You communicate instructions clearly and work effectively with other departments and staff.
You can interpret policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
You can maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
You have good problemsolving and technical troubleshooting skills.
You'd be a GREAT fit if:
You have extensive handson experience with commercial or institutional HVAC and refrigeration systems.
You have experience installing HVAC or refrigeration systems, which is specifically preferred.
You have experience supervising maintenance employees, work crews, or inmate workers.
You are highly skilled at diagnosing HVAC/refrigeration failures and determining the appropriate corrective action.
You have experience managing preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance.
You can estimate labor, materials, equipment, and other resources for maintenance projects.
You have experience initiating or approving material and supply requisitions.
You can review technical data and turn it into maintenance decisions and reports.
You are comfortable coordinating large or complex maintenance projects with multiple departments.
You understand agency/facility policies and can ensure work is performed safely and according to established standards.
You are comfortable making independent decisions and serving as the goto technical person for HVAC and refrigeration issues.
