Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking an on-site System Administrator to support our work as a prime contractor on a high-profile U.S. Navy weapon system. Accuracy, integrity, subject matter expertise, and the ability to work well independently and with others are important traits we expect the successful candidate to possess and demonstrate. This position is full-time on-site at Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC.
This position will be responsible for supporting the customer's digital engineering environment. In this role you will support a Microsoft Active Directory environment with day-to-day administration and analysis of Account Provisioning on a classified network.
Key responsibilities are to:
  • Install, configure, harden, patch, tune, upgrade the VMware infrastructure and storage area network infrastructure
  • Monitor the performance of the infrastructure and tune virtual machines, storage, and hardware
  • Harden the virtual machine infrastructure and storage area network infrastructure in accordance with System Security Policies and DISA STIGs
  • Administer, deploy, and maintain a mixed environment of Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems.
  • Develop and maintain scripts using PowerShell and bash to automate administrative tasks, streamline processes, and improve efficiency.
  • Proactively monitor environment health and performance, providing incident response for system-level issues and performing root cause analysis.
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for complex hardware and software issues related to the server and network infrastructure.
  • Collaborate on the development, testing, and modification of the virtualized environment and related applications.
  • Travel to off-site locations is required.

Required Skills and Education
BAE has found that success in this position requires:
  • Active Department of War (DoW) Top Secret DoD Clearance
  • Working full-time on-site at Washington Navy Yard
  • Ten years of position-related work experience in system administration.
  • Deep experience managing, patching, and upgrading VMWare
  • Hands on experience with Storage Area Networks
  • Deep experience managing and troubleshooting Windows Server and RHEL environments.
  • Proficiency in scripting with bash and PowerShell to automate administrative tasks.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and security hardening principles.
  • Experience with system monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • An IAT II certificate as specified in the DoD 8570
    • OR have a SECNAV 5239 qualifying degree and meet the requirements for an IAT II certificate as specified in the DoD 8570 within 6 months of start date
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) along with badge access to the customer's facility, and a network account in good standing on the customer's network
  • Availability to travel up to 10% of the time
