Job description

A well-established engineering firm with over 40 years of experience and recognition as a top systems integrator and ENR-ranked company is seeking a talented Controls Engineer with expertise in Ignition, Cimplicity, and MES/ERP. This company emphasizes a strong ownership culture, investing in its employees through professional development, competitive benefits, and a collaborative, innovation-driven environment. Employees are encouraged to take initiative, build long-term client relationships, and contribute to impactful automation solutions across a variety of industries.

The Controls Engineer role is a highly technical, client-facing position responsible for delivering end-to-end automation solutions. This includes leading or contributing to system design, programming, integration, and commissioning of industrial control systems. The position requires both hands-on technical expertise and leadership capability, with opportunities to guide junior engineers and manage smaller projects. Success in this role is driven by strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to build lasting partnerships with clients.

Key Responsibilities & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline with 6+ years of experience
  • Required experience with Ignition, GE Cimplicity, and integration with MES/ERP systems
  • Design and implement industrial control systems, including PLC, DCS, RTU, HMI, and SCADA platforms
  • Develop system architecture, electrical schematics, and detailed documentation
  • Program using Ladder Logic, Structured Text, SFC, and standard languages like SQL, .NET, and VBA
  • Configure industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus) across wired, fiber, and wireless systems
  • Lead project efforts, mentor junior engineers, and potentially manage smaller projects
  • Work directly with clients to define requirements and deliver tailored automation solutions
  • Utilize platforms such as Rockwell, Siemens, Wonderware, GE, ICONICS, and others
  • Support data integration, visualization, and reporting tools (Power BI, Grafana, APIs)
  • Preferred experience in industries like Food & Beverage, Oil & Gas, or material handling

*Ability to travel up to 30% and work in both office and industrial environments

To comply with some state laws, the annual base salary range for this position has been provided. The given range is broad and should be considered only a guideline. Our client will consider a candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, the salaries of current employees in similar roles, and other factors when extending an offer.
