Group: Land Surveying

Position: Field Technician

Location: Columbus or Cincinnati, OH

The Field Technician supports the Survey Crew Chief in performing accurate, efficient, and safe field survey operations. This is an entry-level position focused on learning field survey techniques, equipment operation, and safety practices while contributing to project execution. The role requires reliability, attention to detail, and a willingness to develop technical skills in a hands-on outdoor environment.


  • Work under direct supervision of the Crew Chief to complete assigned field tasks safely and accurately.
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of survey equipment.
  • Operate basic survey instruments (GPS, total stations, data collectors) with guidance.
  • Assist in establishing control points and collecting field data.
  • Perform basic field tasks such as rod holding, note keeping, and equipment transport.
  • Support topographic surveys, boundary surveys, and construction layout activities.
  • Maintain a safe work environment, including proper signage and equipment placement.
  • Follow all company and project safety protocols.
  • Maintain vehicles and equipment in good working condition and report issues.
  • Communicate professionally with team members and the public on job sites.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Flexibility to travel throughout Ohio to project sites required.
  • Willingness to learn survey equipment and field procedures.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • 1+ year of land surveying experience or similar work is preferred
  • Basic understanding of surveying principles is preferred.
  • Exposure to surveying, construction, or outdoor fieldwork is preferred.
  • Coursework in surveying, civil engineering, or related field is preferred.
