Job description

Educational Sign Language Interpreter – School SettingPosition Overview

The Educational Sign Language Interpreter is a trained professional who facilitates communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and others within an educational environment. This role primarily involves interpreting between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL) to ensure students have full access to classroom instruction, activities, and discussions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in interpreting, Deaf Studies, or a related field (preferred)
  • State Board of Education Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate (if applicable)
  • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certification (as required by state or client)
  • Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification (if required by regulations)
  • Adherence to all professional standards of practice
  • Current CPR certification (if applicable)
  • TB screening (questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray as required)
  • Current health certificate (per contract or state requirements)
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local employment requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Compensation: 
Pay Rate: $55/hour
