Akerman is seeking a full-time Conflicts Manager. This exempt position is responsible for the day-to-day management and strategic oversight of the Conflicts Department. The Conflicts Manager is accountable for meeting performance metrics, workflow efficiency, process design and improvement, ongoing audit of procedures, and employee training and development. This role leads and supervises all Conflicts and Administrative Team employees and partners closely with firm leadership to ensure timely and compliant conflict clearance consistent with professional and ethical standards.
The Conflicts Manager reports to the Senior Director of Conflicts & Intake Services. The position may be in-office, remote, or hybrid, based on firm needs.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and manage a team of 10 or more Conflicts and Administrative Team employees
  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, performance management, and professional development of the Conflicts and Administrative team employees
  • Ensure consistent, ongoing training and quality assurance across all team members
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing, service-oriented team culture

Conflicts Review & Advisory
  • Oversee analysis of all new business requests to identify and resolve potential conflicts of interest
  • Ensure conflicts determinations comply with firm policies, ethical rules, and professional responsibility standards
  • Review conflicts reports for accuracy, consistency, and completeness
  • Serve as a key point of contact for partners, associates, legal assistants, firm management, and General Counsel

Systems, Data & Process Management
  • Manage and maintain the firm's conflicts and intake databases and related third-party platforms
  • Partner with IT and vendors to stay current on software enhancements and best practices
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and workflow efficiency
  • Ensure accurate, consistent reporting of conflicts data to finance, records, IT, and other departments

Reporting, Audits & Projects
  • Conduct regular audits of the conflicts database and related procedures
  • Maintain accurate records to support internal and external audits
  • Prepare and deliver monthly reports and metrics for firm management
  • Lead and support large-scale, complex projects requiring extensive data review and cross-functional coordination
  • Manage competing priorities and respond effectively to urgent or time-sensitive matters

Additional Responsibilities
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as business needs require
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications (Education & Experience):
  • Minimum of 5 years of conflicts or new business intake experience in a law firm or professional services environment
  • Minimum of 4 years of people management or supervisory experience
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Paralegal Certification preferred
  • Master's degree or Juris Doctor preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Advanced working knowledge of conflicts and intake systems such as Elite, Intapp, Aderant, or similar platforms
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience presenting data, recommendations, or outcomes to leadership or attorney audiences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and mentoring capability
  • Ability to manage change, recommend process improvements, and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Strong understanding of legal terminology, law firm operations, and professional responsibility considerations
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with attorneys and senior stakeholders

Working Conditions
  • Some travel may be required (approximately 5-15%)
