Job description

Description
Yale University intends to appoint a Postdoctoral Associate in Egyptology for the academic year 2026-2027. The responsibilities of this postdoctoral position are primarily research and writing in collaboration with the scholarly activities of Egyptology at Yale University. In addition, based on the curricular needs of the Egyptology program, the duties of this position may include the teaching of one course in the second term of the academic year. We welcome a wide array of interests and specializations, including those with archaeological, museological and philological focus.
This postdoctoral associate position is funded by the William K. and Marilyn M. Simpson Endowment for Egyptology, administered by the Department of Near Eastern Languages & Civilizations at Yale University. Yale's academic activities in Egyptology include archaeological missions in Egypt, close affiliation with the Peabody Museum and other major museums and collections, and the regular hosting of visiting scholars. The postdoctoral associate will have the opportunity to access the available academic and research resources and participate actively in the Egyptology program's activities which may include organizing an international conference.
Postdoctoral Associates at Yale University are appointed for 12-month terms. This position has funding for two years. Therefore, there is the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and available funding.
Compensation is commensurate with education and experience and will include Yale University's benefits package.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have recently completed their PhD in Egyptology, having obtained their degree no more than five years ago. In addition to expert knowledge in their area of focus, we also expect them to have a broad knowledge of Egyptology in all its sub-fields, from prehistory to the end of the Coptic period. Field experience, acquaintance with museum collections and practices, and/or teaching experience are all desirable.
