    Job description

    Weyerhaeuser Lumber Mill in Cottage Grove, OR, has immediate openings for Journeyman Saw Filer. All candidates must be safety conscious, self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills, be experienced in working with other crafts, and have a desire to work in a market focused, team environment.

    Competitive wage at $36.93 an hour with additional skill-based pay levels ranging from $39.77 - $41.19. Once employed, test up! 
    Comprehensive benefit package including Health Insurance, with family coverage ranging from $12.00 - $32.00 per paycheck. Health Savings Account, dental & vision, 401(k) with company match up to 3% plus an additional 5% company contribution. 2-weeks' vacation, 9 scheduled holidays, with 2 additional float holidays and state sick time, front loaded at 40 hours. Plus, discounted Weyerhaeuser recreation permits. No required overtime.

    This is a bargaining unit position in the International Assn. of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Woodworkers Local Lodge W246.

    Candidates selected for this position will bench and grind round and trim saws, hammer and sharpen carbide saws, troubleshoot and work on filing equipment, and align sawmill equipment.

    Education

    • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
    • Have a Journeyman card or ability to obtain one.

    Experience

    • Journey filing experience with a minimum of 1-3 years in a sawmill environment preferred.
    • Understanding internal quality control and machine alignment procedures.
    • Exposure to CNC equipment and computer skills is desirable.
    • Consistently demonstrating a strong commitment to safety values.
    • Producing quality work products and the capacity to adapt to and learn new technology.

    Responsible for, but not limited to:

    • Fitting round saws.
    • Use filing shop equipment to do calibration and maintenance.
    • Do hard tipped welding (alloy) and stellite tipping.
    • Tension and level round saws and band saws.
    • Perform and assist with saw change service.
    • Perform operations preventative maintenance including inspecting equipment for signs of wear and damage and recognize unsafe conditions.
    • Understand planned and preventative maintenance process.
    • Teach and guide apprentices.

    Must:

    • Submit a resume.
    • Be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship..
    • Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and physical.
    • Wear all safety equipment and obey all safety rules.
    • Must be willing to work multiple shifts including nights and weekends. 
    • Participate in safety initiatives, including exhibiting safe work practices and helping others work safely.
    • Have a sense of urgency in terms of maximizing production and minimizing down time is necessary in this type of manufacturing environment.
    • Be able to perform labor-intensive work.
    • Be comfortable working above the ground at times, and outside as necessary.
    • Be able to perform essential duties include but are not limited to stooping, climbing and crawling in and over machines for repair purposes and the ability to lift 50 to 100 pounds.
