Job description

Position Summary At Ogden Weber Technical College, we believe that strong communities, continuous learning, and unwavering integrity are the foundation of student and employee success. As our Payroll Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting the College by accurately and efficiently processing payroll while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and institutional policies. This detail-oriented position requires the highest level of confidentiality as you maintain employee data and records through the Human Resource Information System (HRIS), prepare and distribute payroll reports, and process direct deposits, garnishments, tax levies, wage assignments, and child support orders.

The Payroll Specialist also manages insurance, retirement, and payroll withholdings, along with other benefit-related payments and reconciliations. In addition, this position serves as an important partner to the Fiscal Office by providing accounting support for essential functions and acting as a backup when needed. Through exceptional service, accuracy, and collaboration, you will help strengthen our campus community while supporting OTECH's commitment to excellence.

This position works under the direction of the Accounting Manager. Essential Functions 1. Process biweekly payroll for employees, including but not limited to payroll direct deposits, garnishments, wage assignments, and child support orders.

2. Distribute payroll reports and ensure accurate and timely delivery to stakeholders including but not limited to 401(k)/retirement contributions, HSA contributions, and FSA contributions. 3.

Review data regarding quarterly and end of year payroll taxes including but not limited to W-2, 1095, and 941 forms. 4. Collaborate with the Accounting and Human Resources Director to resolve payroll-related issues and discrepancies.

5. Analyze payroll data, identify trends or discrepancies, and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy. 6.

Stay updated on payroll laws, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and mitigate risks. 7. Process payroll audits, compliance reviews, and reporting as required.

8. Reconciliation of accounts for the Fiscal department. 9.

Serves as backup for the Accounts Payable Specialist. 10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements Education and Experience Requirements: 1. Associate degree in accounting, finance, or related field or two years of professional payroll or accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 2.

Proven experience as a Payroll Specialist or similar role, with knowledge of payroll processing procedures and regulations. 3. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.

4. Proficiency in payroll software and MS Office, particularly Excel. 5.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross- functional teams. 6. Knowledge of HR policies and procedures related to payroll, benefits, and compliance.

7. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred but not required. Must have the following abilities: 1.

Maintain strict confidentiality and professional discretion regarding sensitive and proprietary information. 2. Present a professional appearance and demeanor.

Apply critical thinking techniques. 5. Analyze and solve problems.

6. Prioritize work. 7.

Perform within deadlines. 8. Stay focused despite interruptions.

9. Deal with stress caused by deadlines. 10.

Work well in a team environment as well as independently. Physical Requirements: 1. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform most work; however, there will be some walking; standing; bending; reaching; and carrying light items.

Special physical demands are not required of the position. 2. Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc
