Description

This role is responsible for the implementation of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) strategies to improve asset reliability, safety, and operational performance. The individual will analyze equipment failure modes, maintenance data, and operational risks to determine the most effective maintenance practices and intervals. The position requires facilitating RCM analyses, identifying opportunities to reduce unplanned failures, and ensuring maintenance programs are aligned with business objectives. The successful candidate will track performance metrics, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and support a culture of proactive asset management.

Position is based out of the Union Pacific Center in Omaha, NE, however you will travel up to 30% and work in a diesel shop environment in order to support your projects.   

In addition you will help improve locomotive availability, reliability and performance for Union Pacific and the customers the railroad serves.  You will provide technical guidance to fellow employees and management, which includes, Locomotive troubleshooting, clear communication on work to be performed, equipment status, productivity, and process improvements. Develop, manage and implement projects for ensuring the locomotives that serve Union Pacific customers are as safe, productive, efficient and reliable as possible. This role researches, develops, establishes and implements locomotive plans, standards, technology and programs. The position provides recommendations for meeting regulatory requirements for the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and regulatory agencies.  Work with fellow employees and management to promote, maintain, and drive continuous improvement with safe work practices.

Accountabilities
  • Ensure key process indicators (safety, reliability, quality and productivity) are met and improved 
  • Provide design, data analysis, research and testing for locomotives and components in an effort to improve life cycle cost 
  • Provide general help and troubleshooting assistance to Mechanical Locomotive System & Regional shops 
  • Assist the system repair shops to ensure all locomotives meet requirements for the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and other regulatory agencies, and assist other Union Pacific departments, including the Law Department, to interpret and implement locomotive regulations 
  • Plan, direct and coordinate the locomotive maintenance planning, standards, programs and technology for Union Pacific's locomotive fleet 
  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) 
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle conflict situations 
  • Ensure craft work and facility business processes are done safely and to standard 
  • Maintain integrity in reporting, expenses and personal demeanor 
  • Solve problems when work or business processes cannot be done to standard 
  • Use eight-step problem solving process to improve shop processes by eliminating waste and variability 
  • Lead, develop and engage team leaders and craft persons in UP Way methodology 
  • Apply subject matter expertise to resolve the root cause of impactful train incidents with a focus on electrical subsystems 
  • Perform other duties as assigned 
Qualifications - Required
  • A Bachelor's degree or comparable work experience
  • 3 or more years of work experience OR participation in the Union Pacific Operations Management Training or Field Management Training (OMT/FMT) program
Qualifications - Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline

The final salary of the selected candidate for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, specialty and training. This position also includes additional compensation and benefits offered by Union Pacific.

This position is eligible for participation in the Union Pacific Annual Compensation Program. This is a pay-for-performance program which administers annual salary adjustments, cash incentive bonuses and stock equity as determined by individual performance, company performance and program guidelines. Additionally, this position is eligible for health and welfare benefits, retirement, financial planning benefits and paid and unpaid leave.
