The Opportunity:

Tech2 Solutions (T2S), a joint venture between Tetra Tech and Sealaska, is adding an Environmental Professional to support the Groundwater Monitoring Project under the N3B Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract (LLCC) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This entry-level position provides an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to begin a career in environmental field services while supporting groundwater monitoring and environmental compliance activities. The successful candidate will receive on-the-job training while working alongside experienced environmental professionals performing groundwater level monitoring, pressure transducer installation, telemetry support, field equipment operation, and environmental data collection.

T2S is a key subcontractor supporting N3B's Groundwater and Surface Water Monitoring Program, helping protect human health and the environment through high-quality environmental monitoring and data collection.

Essential Job Functions:

Groundwater Monitoring

  • Collect manual groundwater level measurements from alluvial, intermediate, regional, extraction, injection wells, and piezometers while maintaining accurate field documentation.
  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of pressure transducers and telemetry equipment.
  • Perform monitoring well packer pressure checks, including pressure cylinder exchanges and pressure adjustments.
  • Support groundwater sampling activities, including equipment preparation and field documentation.
  • Operate generators, pumps, trailers, motors, and other field equipment used in groundwater monitoring.

Equipment & Data Management

  • Use and maintain water level meters and associated calibration logs.
  • Track calibration certifications and maintain records for transducers and monitoring equipment.
  • Assist with generating sampling calendars, daily status reports, field summary reports, and other project documentation.
  • Support data tabulation, report preparation, and project recordkeeping.
  • Coordinate site access requests and assist with project logistics as needed.

Project Support

  • Work closely with project leads and experienced field staff to support groundwater monitoring activities.
  • Follow project procedures while working independently and as part of a team.
  • Support additional groundwater and surface water monitoring activities as assigned.
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends to support project schedules.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Perform all work safely and in accordance with T2S, N3B, LANL, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain required operational, safety, environmental, and security training.
  • Follow established work procedures and immediately report unsafe conditions.
  • Exercise stop-work authority whenever work cannot be performed safely.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrology, Environmental Technology, or another related technical discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Less than one year of related environmental, technical, field, laboratory, or mechanical experience. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn field equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and remote locations.
  • Ability to safely back a cargo trailer or willingness to learn.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently with guidance and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with groundwater monitoring or environmental field work.
  • Experience operating pumps, generators, trailers, or other mechanical equipment.
  • Familiarity with pressure systems, including nitrogen tanks and gauges.
  • Experience with GPS equipment, telemetry systems, or environmental monitoring instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) or Department of Energy (DOE) work environments.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires moderate physical activity and regular outdoor field work.
  • Frequently stand, walk, hike, sit, reach, and use hands to operate field equipment.
  • Lift and carry up to 30 pounds, including while hiking over uneven terrain.
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Operate vehicles, trailers, pumps, generators, and monitoring equipment safely.
  • Possess close and distance vision sufficient to perform field activities.

Working Conditions:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively with field team members.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Work Environment: 

This position is based at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, New Mexico, and primarily involves outdoor field work supporting groundwater monitoring locations throughout the site. Work may occur in remote areas and requires travel between monitoring locations. Occasional after-hours and weekend work may be required to support project schedules.

Compensation:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Pay Range: $65,000-$80,000 annually
