About this Position

The Wealth Management distribution group strives to build strong long-term relationships through outstanding customer service and offering a comprehensive suite of investment management solutions to our diverse client base which include Banks, Broker/Dealers, RIA, TAMP's, and Intermediary Platform providers throughout the United States.

In 2021, T. Rowe Price made a significant step into alternatives by announcing their acquisition of Oak Hill Advisors (OHA), a leading alternative credit manager accelerating T. Rowe Price's expansion into alternative markets, and complementing T. Rowe Price's existing global platform and ongoing strategic investments in its core investments and distribution capabilities. This collaborative partnership allows us to offer OHA's leading capabilities in alternative credit solutions to a broader scope of investors. T. Rowe Price and OHA each have a history of investment excellence, helping clients achieve their long-term goals.

The role can be based in either our headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland, or New York City, with significant presence required in both locations.

Role Summary

  • The Head of Intermediary Alternatives is a critical hire, focused on strategically aligning the alternative investment capabilities of OHA and T. Rowe Price and the intermediary franchise of T. Rowe Price with the goal of growing assets under management.
  • This leadership role reports to the Head of Global Distribution and will be a member of the Global Distribution Executive team.
  • This role has four primary objectives:
    • Manage a team of sales professionals who are responsible for driving Alternative Investment Sales with Targeted Advisors.
    • Collaborate with leaders of dedicated generalist field sales teams to identify strategic opportunities with firms that will drive sales and ensure teams are servicing existing T. Rowe Price producing advisors within each sales region.
    • Work with senior leadership across T. Rowe Price and Oak Hill Advisors to ensure client needs are represented in the Alts product development process, and design effective go-to-market distribution strategies that directly result in new AUM.
    • Help solidify placement of alternative products on intermediary client platforms; this may include building the capability to educate clients (both internal and external) on the alternatives landscape, including the role these strategies play in portfolios and the merits/considerations of the varied structures/vehicles that these funds are delivered in

Responsibilities

  • Work with leadership teams in distribution and marketing to assess new partnership opportunities and ensure maximum leverage in our distribution efforts, designed to drive assets and flows into all Alts products offered by TRP & OHA.
  • Work with Wealth Management Executive leadership team to ensure close partnership between existing TRP Wealth Management Field sales team(s) and the Alternatives Field Sales teams, to ensure effectiveness when targeting advisors.
  • Ensure distribution of TRP Alternative Investments by helping to get Alts products placed on intermediary client platforms
  • Lead efforts with various T. Rowe Price distribution teams and investment leaders on training/education on our Alternative Investments, with a particular focus on go-to-market needs including client facing marketing collateral, training needs, and ensuring messaging consistency in client touchpoints.
  • Design effective go to market strategy in collaboration with OHA. This may include building the capability to educate our clients (both internally and externally) on the Alts landscape and the T. Rowe Price's Alts story, with the goal of directly driving sales. Ensure strong execution through data and reporting, including pipeline management.
  • Accountable for representing voice of client in alternatives positioning and product innovation for the Intermediary Wealth Management and TRP / OHA leadership teams. Represent client feedback pertaining to our Alts offer, industry buying trends, and competitor insights, as well as ensuring the appropriate support model to service advisor specific needs in the intermediary space.
  • Partner with TRP, OHA, distribution, and data teams to ensure effective targeting of the highest value Alternatives advisors while maintaining a robust pipeline of opportunities.
  • Partner with US Intermediary and OHA leadership to ensure the forging of strategic distribution partnerships with the most relevant legal, technology, and investment partners in the Alternatives market.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Superior collaboration skills coupled with the requisite level of gravitas to effectively position the firm's capabilities.
  • Executive leadership skills - a collaborator and influencer who inspires trust in others and effectively influences across an organization, a leader who can make others around them successful.
  • Experience with the U.S. investment distribution landscape including Broker/Dealers, Registered Investments Advisors, Banks, and Retail Platforms.
  • In-depth knowledge of Alts and competing investment vehicles such as mutual funds, separately managed accounts, etc.
  • Prior experience in private credit.
  • Proven ability to manage a team of sales professionals who are responsible for directly driving sales with clients / intermediaries.
  • Proven experience in direct new business generation.
  • Exceptional communication skills including written, verbal, and delivering presentations.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and relationship management skills
  • Series 7, 63 and 24 preferred; or must obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of Alts experience
  • Ability to travel extensively required.

Preferred:

  • 10+ years of Alts experience
  • College degree required and advanced degree or designation (CFA/CAIA) preferred.

FINRA Requirements

FINRA licenses are required and will be supported for this role.

Work Flexibility

This role is eligible for hybrid work, with up to two days per week from home.
