Job Summary

Under limited supervision, the purpose of this position is to provide leadership and guidance for the District’s Cooperative Agreement Program which will include planning, management and development for Cooperative Agreement projects. Responsibilities include:

  • Building and fostering relationships, ensuring collaboration and trusting experiences within MnDOT with local agencies of government.
  • Consistency and transparency in the selection, design, processing, and construction of projects in accordance with applicable Federal, State and Local requirements.
  • Provide project management direction from inception to completion of projects; to be the primary project contact for other public agencies and the general public, ensuring proper program execution and compliance with MnDOT, state and federal procedures, practices, regulations, and standards.
  • This position leads development of layouts within District 6 and serves as a technical expert for program delivery final design activities, independent quality assurance reviews for all District 6 projects, and development of post construction lessons learned district reports.
  • This position is also a member of statewide and district technical committees providing final design expertise for projects, policies, and process improvements.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications

To qualify for Engineer Principal, applicants must meet all the following:

  • Licensure as a professional engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID). (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)
  • Three (3) years of post-registration engineering experience at the Engineer Senior level (or equivalent) in all phases of program delivery including scoping, pre-design and final design.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supervising or serving as a lead worker, including providing oversight and work direction and evaluating staff.
  • Advanced knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, techniques and methods.
  • Advanced knowledge and application of MnDOT requirements for plan content, organization, and Quality Management Process.
  • Communication skills sufficient to be used for conflict management, negotiating and consensus building.
