The VP, Inland Marine is a key executive role responsible for overseeing the profitability, growth, and operational performance of the Inland Marine line of business. This individual will provide strategic direction, manage underwriting teams, collaborate with actuarial, claims, and sales functions, and serve as an internal and external subject matter expert. The VP will continuously assess market opportunities and risks to shape product offerings and achieve business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Inland Marine division in developing and executing strategy to deliver profitable growth and strong customer value.
  • Oversee the underwriting of all Inland Marine products, including middle market builder's risk, contractor's equipment, transportation, fine arts, specialty property and all other commercial inland marine classes of business
  • Set underwriting guidelines, pricing parameters, and portfolio management standards in alignment with company objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and analyze market trends, competitor activity, and emerging risks; propose innovative solutions and product enhancements.
  • Collaborate closely with the EVP, Property, and other senior leadership to align Inland Marine strategy with overall Property portfolio targets.
  • Manage relationships with key brokers, agents, reinsurers and clients; represent the company in industry forums and events.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of underwriters, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and professional development.
  • Asses and address staffing needs as they arise
  • Partner with Claims, Actuarial, Risk Management, and Product Development teams to ensure holistic management of the Inland Marine portfolio.
  • Facilitate quarterly business reviews and prepare performance reports for executive leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, industry standards, andregulatory requirements.
  • Drive modernization and digitalization initiatives within Inland Marine underwriting processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, CPCU, etc.) preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in commercial property, P&C lines, with a strong focus in Inland Marine.
  • Progressive leadership experience, including managing teams of underwriters.
  • Deep technical understanding of Inland Marine risks, products, underwriting, and claims.
  • Demonstrated success in driving profitable growth and innovation.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Strategic mindset; able to translate market insights into actionable initiatives.
  • Familiarity with nationwide inland markets preferred.

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York, Starr Insurance Companies is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets: experience and training: licensure and certifications: and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $268,800-$330,000
