What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Solution Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Solution Engineer, you need a strong technical background in software engineering or IT, analytical problem-solving abilities, and typically a relevant degree or certifications. Familiarity with CRM systems, cloud platforms, APIs, and tools like Salesforce or AWS is often required. Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills help you effectively translate client needs into technical solutions. These competencies ensure that you can design, demonstrate, and implement solutions that meet client requirements and drive business success.

How do Solution Engineers typically collaborate with sales and technical teams during the sales cycle?

Solution Engineers play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between sales and technical teams. During the sales cycle, they often work closely with sales representatives to understand client requirements, deliver technical presentations, and tailor demonstrations to showcase how a product meets specific business needs. They also engage with product and engineering teams to address feasibility concerns, customize solutions, and ensure proposed implementations are technically sound. This collaborative environment requires strong communication skills, adaptability, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What is a Solution Engineer?

A Solution Engineer is a professional who bridges the gap between technical and business teams by designing, presenting, and implementing technology solutions tailored to a client's needs. They work closely with sales teams to understand customer requirements and demonstrate how products or services can solve specific business problems. Solution Engineers often provide technical expertise during the pre-sales process, create proof-of-concepts, and ensure smooth integration of solutions. Their role requires strong communication, problem-solving, and technical skills to translate complex concepts into practical solutions.

Job description

A Senior Partner Engineer, Snowflake Alliance is the principal technical advisor and advocate for the Sigma-Snowflake partnership, both internally at Sigma and externally with Snowflake. This role requires a deep, current, and comprehensive understanding of both the Sigma and Snowflake products and the differentiated value they deliver together to joint customers. The Senior Partner Engineer provides technical thought leadership and strategic guidance across the partnership lifecycle, including: enabling technical sales and solution development, managing high-priority technical engagements, driving enablement for field teams, and contributing to overall revenue growth and customer success.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Technical Alliance Leadership: Serve as the primary technical leader and advocate for the Sigma Computing/Snowflake strategic alliance. Drive the mutual success of joint customers by ensuring seamless technical integration, optimal performance, and maximized utilization of the Snowflake AI Data Cloud and Sigma's platform.
  • Deepen and Expand Stakeholder Relationships: Cultivate and maintain robust technical relationships with key personnel at Snowflake, including Product Management, Partner Leadership, Solution Engineering, and Sales teams, to ensure strategic alignment, drive co-innovation, and facilitate joint account mapping.
  • Joint Go-to-Market (GTM) Enablement and Execution: Proactively collaborate with Sigma's GTM teams to identify, qualify, and technically support strategic joint customer opportunities. Develop and champion compelling technical GTM solutions, reference architectures, and partner-facing enablement content (e.g., training, workshops, internal demos).
  • Platform Integration and Future-Proofing: Proactively identify and scope high-value joint product opportunities and facilitate the handoff to the Partner Architect team for deeper technical engagement and development.
  • Cross-Functional Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME): Act as the internal authority on the Snowflake platform, providing expert technical guidance and training to Sigma's Sales Engineering, Product, and Engineering teams on best practices for leveraging Snowflake features in conjunction with Sigma. Own the creation and maintenance of technical resources for the field, including deep-dive enablement sessions (e.g., HOLs, workshops).
  • Content and Event Technical Leadership: Lead the technical creation of joint thought-leadership content, including webinars, blogs, solution briefs, demo vignettes, and presentations for major industry events (e.g., Summit, World Tours). Coordinate with Sigma's Marketing and Demo Engineering teams to ensure high-quality technical representation at all joint GTM activities.
  • Advanced Solution Development: Identify, design, and evangelize high-value, industry-specific technical solutions leveraging the combined capabilities of Sigma and the Snowflake, working with internal teams, Systems Integrator partners, and Snowflake Industry Principals and Field CTOs to package these solutions for field consumption.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in a highly technical customer-facing or partner-focused role, such as Technical Alliance Management, Solution Engineering, Product Management, or Technical Consulting.
  • Deep and current hands-on experience with the Snowflake Data Cloud is mandatory. Proven understanding of its core architecture, features, and ecosystem integrations.
  • Strong technical background in data analytics, data warehousing, business intelligence (BI), and cloud data platforms.
  • Prior experience working with BI and Analytics platforms is highly preferred; experience with Sigma Computing is a plus.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong, mutually beneficial technical relationships with key stakeholders at major partner organizations (e.g., Product, Engineering, Partner Sales).
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, compelling business value for both technical and non-technical executive audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment and can manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time for partner and customer engagements, and company/industry events.
