SUMMARY
The Manager, HR Generalist will support the Corporate HR team with a primary focus on employment law compliance and benefits administration, while also providing general HR support across the employee lifecycle. This role serves as a key point of contact for employees on benefits matters and helps ensure the organization remains compliant with all applicable federal, state and local employment regulations. The Manager, HR Generalist will support a workforce located across most U.S. states, requiring strong command of multi-state compliance administration.
QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
• 5–7+ years of progressive HR, demonstrated benefits administration and compliance.
• Experience supporting a multi-unit, multi-state employee population required.
• Working knowledge of FLSA, FMLA, ADA, COBRA, and other applicable employment laws.
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
• PHR, SHRM-CP, or CEBS certification preferred.
• Restaurant, retail, or other multi-unit/franchise industry experience preferred.
• HRIS proficiency, with UKG experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of employee benefit programs and benefit administration processes.
• Ability to explain benefit/compliance related information clearly to employees at all levels.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Benefits Administration
• Serve as primary point of contact for all employee benefits questions/communications (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA/HAS, etc.)
• Monitor benefits eligibility/process benefits enrollments, changes, terminations in HRIS and with carriers.
• Eligibility reports for new hires, promotions, terminations, benefit changes.
• Maintain accurate benefit records/employee files.
• Assist with benefit reconciliation and review payroll deductions for accuracy.
• Support COBRA administration, provide information to employees regarding coverage.
• Assist with 401(k) enrollment, changes, beneficiary information, etc.
• Assist with benefit audits, identify and correct discrepancies.
Leave Administration
• Leave of absence programs from request to return to work, including FMLA, ADA, state-specific leave, short/long term disability, company leave policies.
• Follow-up on required documents/return-to-work information, maintaining accurate records.
• Coordinate with employees, managers, HR leadership, benefit vendors regarding leave status/benefit continuation.
• Monitor benefit eligibility and employee premium payments while employees are on leave.
• Confidentiality of employee medical and leave-related information.
Compliance
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (FLSA, ADA, FMLA, ACA, COBRA, EEO, etc.)
• Support PAGA compliance for CA locations, including administering break violation report procedures.
• Conduct I-9 audits, manage reverifications.
• Maintain electronic/physical personnel and benefits files and records, per Company retention requirements.
• Support responses to agency inquiries and audits (DOL, EEOC, state agencies).
• FCRA compliance related to company background checks.
HRIS & General HR Support
• Maintain accurate employee information in UKG/HR systems.
• Quarterly audits of personnel and onboarding files to identify discrepancies in employee records, benefits, deductions, and eligibility.
• Support required employment documentation, I-9 reverifications, compliance-related follow-up.
• Manage unemployment claims and other HR-related administrative processes as needed.
• Support workers’ comp, safety administration when appropriate.
• Assist with HR compliance audits, reporting, and documentation.
• Assist HR leadership with special projects and process improvements.
