Floral & Garden Department Specialist- 801 Oakdale Road, Modesto, CA 95355
Job Summary:
The Floral and Garden Specialist is an integral part of a highly motivated team focused on serving guests with an emphasis on the overall Floral and Garden Department Store guest experience to consistently meet or exceed guest expectations. The Floral and Garden Specialist is the main point of contact for all things Floral and Garden in the Store. Actively engaging and educating guests regarding a variety of Florals, including but not limited to Potted Plants, Fresh Cut Flowers, Balloons, Outdoor Garden Center, and all Outdoor Floral Garden Center Hardgoods. Advises guests on how to select Floral Products and how to care for those products.
The Floral and Garden Specialist creates a remarkable guest experience by exemplifying expertise, attention to detail and providing exceptional Floral and Garden product knowledge. The Specialist is responsible handling all products in a safe, sanitary manner and keeps all areas and equipment of the department clean.
Responsibilites:
• Provide guests with a remarkable shopping experience by greeting and thanking guests in a prompt, courteous and friendly manner, answering questions, responding to guest requests on all Floral and Garden product offerings and special event work for weddings, graduations, etc.
• Responsible for working closely under the Produce Department Manager to ensure the success of the store and department through excellent guest service and a demonstrated passion for everything Floral and Garden
• Demonstrate a high level of integrity with department products, with department team members and our guests.
• Actively engage and educate customers regarding variety of Floral Products including Fresh Cut Flowers, Arrangements, Potted Plants, Balloons, and Outdoor Garden Center products
• Communicate customer requests to department manager and delivers on special orders
• Demonstrates knowledge of various types of Flowers, Potted Plants, Balloons, and Outdoor Garden product and keeps informed about related market trends.
• Focus on driving sales exhibiting a passion for Floral, captivating selling, creating Fresh Floral Arrangements at customer request and promoting high energy daily/weekly sales events.
• Responsible for ordering and receiving products, making sure orders are correct, labeling, dating, product care, properly staging product and following product date rotation.
• Responsible for Store's Floral Department sales, gross profit, and shrink results.
• Cutting, packaging, and creating from scratch all types Floral products such as Fresh Cut Flowers, Arrangements, and Balloons for presentation and sale.
• Utilizes equipment such as but not limited to Floral Chopper, Rose Thorn Remover, Hand Held Floral Shears, Floral Bucket and Department Cleaners, Helium Tank and Tank Valves and label makers.
• Follow all department procedures and operate various Floral Department equipment
• Keep work areas and equipment clean, orderly and free from safety hazards; report faulty equipment and hazards to management; follow established sanitation and safety guidelines
• Perform other duties as assigned
Hiring pay range: $17.25 - 26.70
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Required:
• Understand all Florals offered in store from Fresh CutFlowers, Outdoor Potted Plants, Balloons, Orchids, and Indoor Houseplants
• Knowledge of product ordering, inventory control,merchandising, sales techniques, product care and handling and departmentmanagement
• Ability to learn and retain policies and procedures, makedecisions, lead and instructs team members, recognize sale trends andindicators,
• Ability to work within and promote a team environment
• Ability to read, write, basic math skills
• Microsoft Office and Excel skills
• Excellent communication skills in order to ensureexcellent guest services; outgoing, friendly and able to interact effectivelyat all levels across diverse cultures
• Strong Floral Department safety practices knowledge
Preferred:
  • Previous Floral Industry experience

Experience:
  • Six months experience Grocery Floral Department, Floral Shop, Florist Design, and Outdoor Garden Center

Education / Licenses / Certifications:
  • High School or GED and/or equivalent experience/training

Other Requirements:
  • Must be able to operate equipment used in the departmentFloral Chopper, Floral Coolers, Outdoor Water Tank etc.
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be available to work a variety of required retail hours
