Provides civil engineering expertise in support of SRP's hydropower generation assets, with emphasis on dams, spillways, canals, penstocks, intake structures, foundations, buildings, roads, bridges, retaining walls, drainage, erosion control, and other civil infrastructure.
Responsible for planning, design, condition assessment, troubleshooting, specification development, project execution, and lifecycle support of civil and structural infrastructure.
Ensures work is completed safely, reliably, in compliance with applicable codes and regulatory requirements, and in a cost-effective manner. Serves as a technical authority and project leader, partnering with Operations, Maintenance, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, consultants, contractors, vendors, and external partners to sustain and modernize critical water and energy infrastructure.
- Performs civil engineering design work, engineering studies, inspections, and condition assessments for hydropower generation facilities and associated civil infrastructure.
- Serves as engineering project leader for civil infrastructure rehabilitation, structural repairs, facility improvements, dam safety-related work, and capital/maintenance projects.
- Develops scopes of work, technical specifications, drawings, calculations, cost estimates, and bid evaluation criteria for civil and structural projects.
- Reviews vendor, consultant, and contractor submittals for technical accuracy, constructability, maintainability, and compliance with SRP standards and project requirements.
- Provides technical oversight during construction, inspection, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and return-to-service activities for civil infrastructure and facility improvements.
- Evaluates civil infrastructure condition, inspection findings, performance trends, and maintenance history to recommend repairs, upgrades, rehabilitation strategies, and reliability improvements.
- Supports inspection, maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation activities for dams, spillways, canals, penstocks, intake structures, foundations, concrete and steel structures, buildings, roads, bridges, retaining walls, drainage systems, and erosion control features.
- Prepares recommendation materials, technical reports, engineering analyses, and presentations for management, project teams, and plant stakeholders.
- Coordinates closely with Operations, Maintenance, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, consultants, contractors, vendors, and outside agencies to execute work safely and efficiently.
- Supports regulatory, dam safety, environmental, and workplace safety requirements as they relate to civil infrastructure, construction activities, and hydropower generation facilities.
- Provides field engineering support, including site inspections, construction support, condition evaluations, troubleshooting, root-cause evaluations, and development of corrective action plans.
- Mentors less-experienced engineers and provides technical guidance to plant personnel on civil infrastructure, inspection practices, construction methods, and long-term asset reliability.
Minimum 5 years of professional experience actively engaged in engineering practice. Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work of the nature defined for the job of Senior Engineer.
Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years of experience at Level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor.
Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of three years of experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.
Responsible for project budgets and schedules. Occasional contacts with customers and outside agencies. Contacts with suppliers of equipment and services. Occasional travel to suppliers facilities, industry organizational functions and SRP facilities. Ability to work effectively with various organizational groups within SRP. Ability to use engineering tools required for the job (i.e., computer, test equipment, etc.).
