Nexus Engineering Group
Specialized Design Services • 51 - 200 employees

$70K - $115K/yr

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Retirement, PTO

Job description

Nexus Engineering Group is employee-owned, full-service, and built by the people who do the work. As an Electrical Engineer, you’ll gather and analyze technical data to develop the basic electrical engineering designs that power our clients’ projects — from power distribution and one-line drawings to load studies and equipment selection.

You’ll prepare electrical distribution designs, one-line drawings, load studies, and power equipment lists across industrial and power delivery projects, then hand your completed work to senior engineering staff for review and approval before it reaches the client. It’s a hands-on role that pairs analytical design work with time in the field — visiting client facilities, walking sites, and getting close to the equipment you’re designing around.

Why Nexus

You’ll own a piece of what you build. Nexus is employee-owned through our ESOP, so the value you help create comes back to you — not just outside shareholders. We invest in our engineers and give them real, technically meaningful work.

What you can expect:

  • Employee ownership (ESOP) — build equity in the firm as it grows
  • Real design ownership — power and electrical distribution, one-line drawings, load studies, and power equipment selection across industrial and power delivery projects
  • Mentorship from senior engineers who review your work and help you grow toward professional licensure
  • Full-service EPCm exposure, from concept through startup, across a diverse client base
  • Career paths that grow with you — toward senior engineer, technical leadership, or discipline management
  • Flexible work arrangements where business needs allow
What You’ll Do
  • Gather and analyze technical data to prepare basic electrical engineering designs for client projects.
  • Develop power and electrical distribution designs, including electrical one-line drawings.
  • Perform electrical load studies and the supporting engineering calculations.
  • Prepare power equipment lists and support selection of transformers, switchgear, motors, UPS, and related equipment.
  • Develop area classification documentation and other electrical drawings, including lighting and heat-tracing (HT) designs.
  • Apply industry, client, utility, and company standards to your engineering work products.
  • Submit completed technical work to senior engineering staff for review and approval before it is presented to the client.
  • Visit client facilities to collect field data and support design development — including walking sites, standing, climbing ladders, and lifting as the work requires.
What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • 1+ year of experience in power distribution, utility coordination, or control system calculations and design.
  • Understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and design principles, including power and electrical distribution.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, standards, and equipment documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD 2-D CAD, with 3-D CAD a plus.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or active progress toward professional licensure.
Work Environment & Physical Demands

Work is performed in a hybrid environment that includes office, remote, and active client-facility and project-site settings. This role may require:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer workstation, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Periodic travel to client facilities and project sites to gather technical data and support design development
  • Physical field work — walking, standing, climbing ladders, and lifting — with exposure to outdoor weather, energized electrical equipment, noise, and active industrial or construction environments; appropriate PPE must be worn
  • The ability to move about client facilities and access project-site areas, with or without reasonable accommodation

The posted salary range represents the anticipated base pay for this position in accordance with applicable pay-transparency requirements and may vary based on experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, work location, and market conditions.

In addition to base pay, eligible employees may receive:

  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) — an ownership stake and a share in the long-term success of Nexus
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus life and disability insurance
  • 401(k) with company match and discretionary bonus opportunities
  • Paid time off, holidays, and paid parental leave
  • Professional development and career advancement — training, certifications, licensure support, tuition assistance, and mentorship
  • Wellness benefits and a flexible schedule where business needs allow
