Team Overview and Job Responsibilities
What You'll Do
The Automation group supports the manufacturing of Medium and Low Voltage Cable through the maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of plant automation and electrical control systems.
This is a highly hands-on role that requires working directly with production equipment on the manufacturing floor. The successful candidate will spend significant time troubleshooting live machinery, diagnosing electrical and controls issues, interacting with production and maintenance teams, and supporting automation systems in an active industrial environment. This is not primarily a desk-based programming position; success in this role requires strong electrical troubleshooting skills, sound safety practices, and the ability to work directly with plant equipment and control systems.
Principal Functional Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and modify PLC and HMI programs supporting manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Provide automation and controls support for production operations, including rotating off-hours support.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, and control system issues on the plant floor using diagnostic tools, meters, and control software.
  • Inspect, install, maintain, repair, and calibrate electrical systems, instrumentation, automation equipment, and control devices.
  • Diagnose and resolve failures on live industrial equipment and electrical control systems to support safe and reliable operations.
  • Support the commissioning, startup, testing, and optimization of new manufacturing equipment.
  • Partner with maintenance teams to troubleshoot issues, implement solutions, and provide technical guidance and mentoring.
  • Drive improvements in electrical safety, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain program backups and critical support files in accordance with plant standards.
  • Comply with all electrical safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and company HSE requirements.

Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Engineering or Computer Science, or Associate/Technical degree in Controls, Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, or equivalent hands-on industry experience.
  • 2-4 years of hands-on work supporting industrial automation, PLC-based controls, and electrical systems within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot live electrical circuits, industrial control systems, and production equipment in an active manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of PLC platforms such as Rockwell (Allen-Bradley), Modicon, Siemens, or comparable systems.
  • Background supporting energized industrial equipment and machinery, including troubleshooting electrical systems up to 480V preferred (240V minimum).
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety practices, lockout/tagout procedures, and industrial troubleshooting methods.
  • Compliance with all applicable safety procedures and ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 HSE guidelines.
