Job description

Material Handling - We bring the muscle. The most complete lifting company in the world, Lanco represents four iconic, world-class heavy equipment manufacturers, mobile crane dealerships across US and Canada, the largest parts and service network in North America, and factory-authorized technician training.
Our Material Handling Division, which spans across Mi-Jack RTG cranes, Broderson industrial cranes, LiftKing forklifts, and Greenfield equipment, is hiring a Power Systems Engineer. This is a hands-on, forward-thinking engineering leadership position responsible for managing multiple projects from concept through completion, supporting both current products and new product development focusing on drivetrain systems. The role operates within a structured product development process and a collaborative, cross-functional team environment that values innovation and drives measurable organizational impact.
Essential Functions:
  • Lead full product development cycles from conception through completion utilizing a stage-gate process.
  • Develop and present technical and project updates to technical management and Chief Engineers.
  • Lead drivetrain design, development, integration and validation - basic transmission systems, steering, and engine components, through clear requirements, performance and dimensional specifications that capture engineering intent.
  • Manage multi-tiered Bills of Material (BOMs) and support integration with organizational ERP systems within a structured release environment (new releases and ECNs).
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts, including interpretation of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics.
  • Support quality initiatives such as DFMEA, PPAP, VAVE, and 6S.
  • Collaborate with all machine system development groups and work with vendors and/or contractors; conduct site visits to support quality audits as required.
  • Support Request for Quote (RFQ) processes and interpret customer contracts, assessing impacts to engineering scope, timelines, and cost.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers, supporting technical growth and professional development.

Please note this job posting is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to design efficient workflows and procedures.
  • Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • High attention to detail to ensure accuracy in design, testing, and documentation.
  • Effective communicator across oral, written, and digital platforms, maintaining professionalism and clarity.
  • Customer-focused mindset with the ability to incorporate feedback into continuous improvement efforts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Advanced proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, CREO / AutoCAD); experience with data management systems such as Teamcenter, Fusion 360, or Windchill. Able to work in both 3-D and 2-D design environments.
  • Strong technical expertise in heavy equipment and mechanical systems, including familiarity with SAE / ISO specifications for off-road and heavy equipment; knowledge of machinery operation.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical assemblies, including drivetrain components (engine installation, transmission systems, and steering systems), and hands-on testing experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Understanding of Bills of Material within both drawings and ERP systems.
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to drive projects to completion; ability to influence others regardless of position power or organizational boundaries.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written); ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders, outside suppliers, and management.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously within a cross-functional team environment.

Work Environment:
This is primarily an office classification; employees work in an office with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. May work offsite in various environments; travel may be required.
Physical & Travel Demands:

  • Up to 10% domestic and international travel is expected; must be eligible and able to travel to the United States occasionally for business purposes.

Required Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with emphasis in Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive engineering experience.

Preferred Education & Experience:
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) license.
  • PMP or CAPM (PMI) certification.
  • Experience supporting full-machine product development in material handling, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, or similar heavy equipment industries, including exposure to drivetrain systems (engine, transmission, steering).
