Job description

We're currently hiring for Full Time Field Supervisors for an Underground Utility Locating contract in the Saint Paul, MN area (including Maplewood, Oakdale and Little Canada areas)! These positions supervise the day-to-day work of a team of Locators. The supervisor provides training to staff and is the subject matter expert on how to locate underground utilities depending on the main function of the project. The Supervisor works with the team to ensure the quality and efficiency of the work performed and resolves customer and employee issues. The position assists the Contract Manager or Regional Manager in coordinating all phases of the project including testing and training of employees to maintain a well-prepared staff. The position will handle reporting inventory and handling or addressing any customer or contractor questions

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in ensuring that all route schedules or ticket schedules are completed as planned.
  • Recommend adjustments to ledgering and sequencing of meter routes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Satisfactorily resolve customer issues and answer customer questions according to Olameter policies and procedures. Escalate issues to Regional Manager or Contract Manager when necessary.
  • Provide Upper management with daily reports.
  • Provide input about staff performance.
  • Assists manager in the hiring, discipline and termination process. Performs a route locating as needed.
  • Assists in any workers comp and safety investigations when required.
  • All other duties as assigned in accordance with the specific project.

Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Upon employment, subject to random drug testing in compliance with DOT guidelines
  • Must be able to work overtime when duties cannot be performed within a normal work schedule
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) or more years’ experience as a Locator
  • Previous supervisory experience helpful
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills ability to teach and train others advanced meter reading, technician or installation skills
  • Computer skills using Microsoft office and the ability to retrieve and enter information into a handheld device or computer database.

Working Conditions and Hours:

  • Outdoor work environment
  • Driving company vehicle to and from work sites
  • Normal working hours are 7:30am-5pm, Monday through Friday; weekend work required when needed
  • May be required to walk up to 10-15 miles daily which includes walking at a brisk pace, climbing stairs and walking on unpaved/rough terrain areas.
  • Ability to perform physical duties such as lifting to 50 lbs. unassisted, walking, kneeling, twisting, turning, stooping, reaching, and bending; getting in and out of vehicle.
  • Exposed to unknown hazards at resident sites such as dogs. Depending on project, may be exposed to burn or electrocution hazards, or natural gas fumes.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Successfully complete the company’s training program and pass applicable written and field tests
  • Develop a general knowledge of state and local damage prevention regulations
  • Learn and apply safety measure relating to motor vehicle operation and other field related matters
