Job description

Melmark Overview
Melmark is a nonprofit organization providing clinically-sophisticated evidence-based special education, residential, vocational, and therapeutic services for children and adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, developmental and intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries, medical complexities, and other neurological and genetic disorders.
Program Instructor Overview
The Program Instructor is responsible for the oversight of all Program instruction for an assigned group of individuals in a structured program room and relevant community environments, designed to promote intellectual, emotional and social growth. Assists with assessments and direct observations, as necessary, to aid in developing appropriate programming, goals and objectives that are appropriate to the ages and populations served and outlined in the Individual Support Plan (ISP). Will attend ISP meetings as needed, train, supervise, coach and ensure program staff implement plans with high treatment integrity at all times. Additionally, the Program Instructor will assist the behavior analyst with clinical program development and ensure staff adherence to all Behavior Support Plans (BSP) and/or Protocol Summaries, as appropriate. Populations served are sometimes intensely physically challenging. The position requires that staff be aware that individuals who are served may exhibit aggressive and/or self-injurious behavior or may require total care with their daily needs. This requires the Program Instructor to be constantly alert and ready to respond to individuals and staff needs according to effective behavior analytic interventions. The Program Instructor is responsible for and trained in carrying out Ch. 2380 regulations, as they apply to the duties of the position. Also, supervises Program Aides.
Schedule and Salary Information
  • Monday- Friday 8am-4pm
  • Fully on-site
  • Starting Salary: $45,240.00 (+) based on years of relevant experience

Requirements
  • Some college education in Education/Special Education or related services field preferred and/or equivalency in specialized skills training
  • A valid U.S. state driver's license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old.
  • Working knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office. The ability to train and supervise peers and aides is a required. Also, must have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Prefer at least one (1) year experience with specialized populations.

Program Instructor Responsibilities
  • Coordinates, supervises and participates in Program activities that include assistance, training and support for the acquisition of functional skills, personal needs and communication.
  • Presents written reports clearly, concisely, timely and professionally. Responsible for maintaining all required paperwork as assigned by program leadership. Keeps daily attendance records, communication books, etc.
  • Responsible for ensuring the Program Assistants completed all required daily paperwork for each assigned individual as per the individual's protocol and department requirements.
  • Develops and oversees community access activities for assigned program area, and ensures all individuals have regular opportunities for community access.
  • Builds community partnerships to aid in the development of volunteer, recreation and community employment opportunities for assigned individuals.
  • Maintains high standards for care, appearance, and dignity of each person. Assists each individual in carrying out necessary personal care, hygiene and other self-help skills.
  • Responsible for the training of staff in the assigned program room on all individuals' ISP's, protocols and BSPs, in conjunction with colleagues as needed.
  • Responsible for regular communication with families/guardians.
  • Communicates information to a supervisor and nursing in a timely manner and records medical information and unusual incidences immediately. Provides documentation of significant events as required by both internal and external reporting guidelines (e.g., Behavior Incident Reports (BIR), Accident/Injury Reports (A/I), seizure reports, or statements related to staff or client concerns).
  • Attends and participates in all required trainings and staff meetings as required.
