This role will require up to 50% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.
The Principal Equipment Engineer is responsible for driving enterprise-wide equipment reliability and maintenance excellence across manufacturing operations. This role establishes best practice standards for equipment performance and maintenance strategies while leading the deployment of the Enterprise Maintenance Excellence (MEx) roadmap as part of the Medtronic Performance System (MPS), leveraging Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) principles. The position provides technical expertise to improve equipment uptime, resolve complex equipment issues, and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies that support a zero-loss, zero-downtime mindset.
In addition, the Principal Equipment Engineer leads and develops a high-performing engineering team responsible for the global equipment inventory and partners closely with manufacturing, maintenance, and process engineering teams across multiple sites. This role collaborates with internal and external experts to strengthen technical capabilities, drives root cause analysis and problem-solving initiatives, and fosters strong cross-functional relationships within a large, matrixed organization to ensure reliable, compliant, and efficient manufacturing operations.

MUST HAVE (Minimum Qualifications)

  • 7+ years of experience with a bachelor's degree or 5+ years of experience with an advanced degree

NICE TO HAVE (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Bachelor degree preferred in mechanical, electrical, reliability engineering, equipment control or related discipline

  • Degree with 7 years' relevant experience or advanced degree with 5 years relevant experience in equipment or maintenance engineering

  • 5-7 years relevant direct equipment or maintenance engineering experience

  • Excellent team building, communications, and leadership skills.

  • 3-5 years' experience in the application Total Performance Maintenance (TPM)

  • CMRP or CRL certification

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$128,000.00 - $192,000.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
