Job description

The Patient Care Technician on the Acute Care Cancer Center (ER) unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse and directly impacts patient comfort and outcome of care.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, a CNA certification and at least one year of patient care experience in an emergency room hospital setting. The candidate must be available to work three 12-hour shifts per week, with rotating weekends and holidays, from 11:00am - 11:00pm.

The Acute Care Cancer Center is a place where patients choose to come when the severity of their disease requires emergency care. The ACCC partners and works closely with the multidisciplinary care centers in the evaluation and treatment of patients who entrust them with their care.

Hourly breakdown of salary range:

Minimum $18.27 - Midpoint $22.84 - Maximum $27.40

Essential Job Functions:

• Provides patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse.

• Impacts patient comfort and outcome of care.

• Acts as member of a multidisciplinary team that identifies and addresses patient care needs.

• Assists in completion of activities of daily living, mobilization, admit/discharge and obtaining vital signs.

• Updates and retrieves patient information.

• Ensures patient environment is maintained in a clean, safe and orderly manner.

• Acts as part of an assigned care team.

• Other duties as assigned.

Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Education Preferred: None.

Experience Required: None

Experience Preferred: One year experience in an emergency room hospital setting as a Nursing Assistant.

Licensure/Certification Required: None.

Licensure/Certification Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Other Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources. Refer to the Position Description for specific ADA requirements, and working conditions.

This position may be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and therefore may require routine reviews and screening. The ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of hire and continued employment.
