Job description

Database Administrator 2 (Mid-Level DBA) Location: Richmond, VA – Hybrid (3 days onsite per week) Employment Type: Full-Time Level: Mid-Level / DBA 2 Position Overview We are seeking a Database Administrator 2 (DBA 2) to support the administration, troubleshooting, migration, backup, recovery, and ongoing maintenance of enterprise database environments. The primary focus of this role will be Microsoft SQL Server administration, with hands-on responsibility for supporting production databases and assisting with the migration of existing databases from a legacy hosted platform to a new hosted platform. The ideal candidate will have experience migrating databases, validating systems after migration, troubleshooting production issues, and performing backup and recovery operations. Our SQL environment includes SQL Server versions ranging from 2008 through 2019 and runs on a dedicated SQL performance hardware platform. There is also a smaller Oracle footprint, so Oracle experience is a plus, but SQL Server expertise is the primary requirement. This position will provide day-to-day operational support and break/fix incident response, allowing senior DBA resources to focus on larger migration and project initiatives. What You'll Do Day to Day Respond to SQL Server incidents and break/fix requests. Troubleshoot database availability, connectivity, performance, and configuration issues. Perform database backups, restores, and recovery operations. Monitor production databases and address potential issues proactively. Execute approved database updates and maintenance activities. Support database migrations and perform post-migration validation. Document incidents, changes, procedures, and migration activities. Partner with senior DBAs and infrastructure/application teams on complex issues and ongoing migration projects. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a hands-on SQL Server DBA who is comfortable working in a production environment and can independently handle day-to-day database administration and troubleshooting. You should have practical experience with database migrations, backup/restore, recovery, monitoring, and production incident response, along with the communication skills needed to work across technical teams and customer-facing stakeholders. This is an excellent opportunity for a mid-level DBA who wants to take ownership of operational database support while contributing to a larger SQL platform migration and modernization initiative.
