Assistant Camp Maintenance Manager (Remote Mining Camp) — Winnemucca, NV

Position Overview

We are seeking an Assistant Camp Maintenance Manager for a remote mining camp near Winnemucca, Nevada. This is a hands-on role supporting camp maintenance and day-to-day readiness for the site, including assisting with facilities upkeep, mechanical support, minor repairs, and labor/loading/unloading tasks as needed. The successful candidate will help the Camp Maintenance Manager lead crews safely, maintain compliance with site safety requirements, and support peak operational demands.

Nevada mining camp conditions include extreme summer heat, high UV exposure, dust/wind, and dry conditions. This role requires safe outdoor work, strong follow-through, and readiness to adjust to changing site priorities.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities (Essential)

  • Assist with camp maintenance operations: support daily cleaning, laboring, minor repairs, and camp upkeep.
  • Facilities & mechanical support: assist with maintaining/troubleshooting generators, plumbing/water systems, electrical components, pumps, and general site systems (basic HVAC/ventilation support as applicable).
  • Preventative maintenance support: help with routine inspections, maintenance tasks, and completion of maintenance logs/checklists.
  • Loading/unloading & site support: assist logistics operations with staging, securing, offloading/loading, and storage as required.
  • Airside/logistics support (as required): support safe coordination around aircraft (rotary and/or fixed-wing, when scheduled) and assist with securing equipment/loads.
  • Safety support: participate in and support daily Toolbox Meetings, ensure team compliance with Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) and SOPs, and follow MSHA safety expectations.
  • Hands-on assistance: work alongside crews to complete repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Communication & reporting: use satellite/in-reach/2-way radios and basic computer tools to relay updates and support coordination.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year experience as a camp assistant, lead laborer, or maintenance support role in remote/field settings (preferred).
  • Strong maintenance aptitude in Electrical, Plumbing & Mechanical (basic working knowledge required).
  • Intermediate First Aid (or equivalent 2-day course) – required.
  • PAL license (wildlife monitoring) – required.
  • Valid Driver’s License – required.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow JHAs/SOPs and work safely in a mining camp environment.
  • Familiarity with mining camp hazards such as dust, heat stress, equipment/traffic, fuel handling, and uneven ground.
  • MSHA awareness/experience (camp/site safety practices aligned with MSHA standards) – required.
  • Experience supporting loading/unloading and/or working around aircraft/logistics (rotary and/or fixed-wing) is a definite asset.
  • Computer skills: proficient with MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Office 365).
  • Must be familiar using satellite phone, in-reach systems, and 2-way radios.
  • Trades experience or journeyperson trades designation is a definite asset.

Working Conditions (Nevada)

  • Remote and busy environment with tight deadlines; work may be stressful at times during operational peaks.
  • Must be able to work minimum 21–28 day rotations, with occasional scheduling flexibility as required by seasonal and project timelines.
  • Work performed outdoors in Nevada weather including high heat/UV, dry conditions, dust/wind. Safe travel across uneven terrain as conditions require.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts performing demanding physical tasks such as hand shoveling/clearing, brushing, fencing/repairs, fueling support, carpentry assistance, and general maintenance.

Mine Site Safety & Compliance (MSHA / Nevada)

  • MSHA certification is required (or must be obtained prior to assignment per site requirements).
  • Must comply with all applicable mine safety and health requirements, including MSHA regulations (30 CFR) and site-specific safety orientation/training.
  • PPE and site rules are required (specific PPE listed by the site upon onboarding).
  • Reference and criminal record checks will be conducted.
  • Some sites may require pre-access drug screening and/or fitness-for-duty clearance.

Preference

Preference will be given to local candidates (and candidates with proximity) in the Winnemucca, NV region.
