Data Center Engineer needed for a 16+ Week Contract onsite in Hanover Park, IL
Our client is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Network Engineer to support and advance the network infrastructure of their Hanover Park Integration Center and Data Center operations. This position plays a critical role in designing, implementing, managing, and securing complex network environments that support large-scale client integration, configuration, testing, and deployment services.
The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in enterprise networking technologies, data center infrastructure, security best practices, and client-facing support. This individual will be responsible for maintaining network availability across multiple client environments while collaborating with internal engineering, cybersecurity, project management, and sales teams to deliver high-quality solutions that meet customer requirements.
This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies in a fast-paced managed services and integration environment supporting Fortune 500 clients, enterprise deployments, and mission-critical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Data Center Network Operations
  • Manage and support network infrastructure across multiple data center environments and client-specific network deployments.
  • Maintain highly available switching, routing, wireless, and security platforms supporting production, staging, and integration services.
  • Monitor network performance and proactively identify opportunities for optimization, scalability, and resiliency improvements.
  • Perform capacity planning, infrastructure upgrades, firmware maintenance, and lifecycle management activities.
  • Ensure adherence to operational standards, documentation requirements, and change management procedures.
Network Architecture & Engineering
  • Design, implement, and document enterprise-class networking solutions based on client and business requirements.
  • Develop scalable network architectures incorporating segmentation, redundancy, high availability, and security best practices.
  • Lead implementation of modern data center networking technologies including spine-and-leaf architectures, VXLAN, and software-defined networking initiatives.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements that enhance operational efficiency and service delivery capabilities.
  • Create detailed network diagrams, implementation plans, and technical documentation.
Security & Compliance
  • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Palo Alto Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW) and associated security technologies.
  • Implement network security controls including VLAN segmentation, ACLs, VPNs, intrusion prevention, and policy enforcement.
  • Partner with Cyber Security teams to address vulnerabilities, audits, compliance requirements, and security incidents.
  • Assist with network assessments, security reviews, and remediation efforts to maintain a secure infrastructure posture.
  • Ensure client and internal network environments comply with established security standards and best practices.
Client Support & Service Delivery
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for network-related issues affecting client environments.
  • Support large-scale client hardware, software, and infrastructure deployment projects.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through exceptional communication, responsiveness, and technical expertise.
  • Participate in client meetings, solution reviews, and technical workshops.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure successful implementation and delivery of customer solutions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Engineering, Integration Services, Operations, Sales, Project Management, and Security teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Support pre-sales activities including technical consultations, solution design, and infrastructure recommendations.
  • Participate in after-hours maintenance windows and on-call support as needed.\
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise network engineering, data center operations, or managed services environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Cisco switching, routing, and wireless technologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise deploying and supporting Palo Alto Networks firewalls and security solutions.
  • Experience managing complex multi-site and multi-client network environments.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VLANs, VPNs, QoS, and network security principles.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP.
  • Knowledge of network monitoring, performance analysis, and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation and commitment to operational excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Cisco CCNP Enterprise certification or equivalent experience.
  • Palo Alto PCNSE certification.
  • Experience with spine-and-leaf architectures and modern data center network designs.
  • Familiarity with Nexus 9000 platforms, Cisco Catalyst platforms, and enterprise wireless solutions.
  • Experience with cloud networking technologies including Azure and AWS connectivity solutions.
  • Knowledge of automation tools and scripting languages such as Python, Ansible, or Terraform.
  • Experience supporting large-scale integration centers, staging facilities, or deployment operations.
  • Exposure to load balancing technologies, SD-WAN, and software-defined networking solutions.
