Job description

Role Overview

We are looking for a highly organized, hands-on Systems Integration & Test Specialist to serve as the critical bridge between Engineering, Production, and Field Support teams. In this role, you will own the assembly, integration, and validation of our mobile solar light towers and solar surveillance trailer products.

You will collaborate with engineering and different parts of the organization to translate engineering designs into reliable production builds, troubleshoot complex system issues, validate new components (especially cameras and related software), and act as the go-to technical expert on our core technologies. This is a fast-paced position that demands strong technical depth, a sense of urgency, meticulous attention to detail, and a genuine problem-solving mindset.

Key Responsibilities

Assembly, Integration & Prototyping

  • Lead hands-on assembly, wiring, and integration of first-article builds, R&D prototypes, and custom orders.
  • Convert engineering schematics and CAD drawings into clear, repeatable production processes and work instructions.
  • Identify and resolve “orphan” assembly/integration tasks that fall between engineering and production.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical assembly using tools such as multimeters, wire strippers, crimpers, and basic hand/power tools.

Testing & Component Validation

  • Develop and execute test protocols for new components, including IP cameras (PTZ, bullet, thermal), solar charge controllers, battery technologies, and power management hardware.
  • Test and validate new IP cameras, firmware, and associated SDKs/APIs — including integration testing with NVRs, video management software, and custom telemetry platforms in collaboration with Software Engineering.
  • Conduct rigorous system-level testing of solar arrays, battery banks, inverters, and low-voltage electronics under simulated real-world and environmental conditions.
  • Document test results, failure modes, performance metrics, and improvement recommendations to support continuous product development.

Technical Expertise & Cross-Functional Support

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on Victron Energy systems (MPPT controllers, inverters, Cerbo GX, battery management), solar array design, IP surveillance networks, camera SDKs, and remote telemetry.
  • Collaborate closely with Software Engineering on camera SDK integration, API testing, video streaming validation, and troubleshooting software-hardware compatibility issues.
  • Provide direct troubleshooting support to the Production team to eliminate bottlenecks and maintain build quality.
  • Deliver high-level technical assistance to customers, including field failure diagnosis and feedback collection for future design iterations.

Documentation & Organization

  • Create and maintain accurate documentation: integration checklists, test reports, SOPs, work instructions, and camera/SDK validation matrices.
  • Keep a highly organized physical workspace and digital file structure (Office 365 + Google Workspace).

Required Expertise & Skills

Technical Knowledge:

  • Strong practical experience with Victron Energy ecosystems (inverters, MPPT charge controllers, Cerbo GX, VRM, li-ion battery systems).
  • Solid understanding of off-grid solar power systems, including panel stringing, voltage/current dynamics, and real-world performance expectations.
  • Working knowledge of IP surveillance systems: PTZ/bullet/thermal cameras, NVRs, PoE networking, IP configuration, and cellular routers (Cradlepoint, Peplink, or similar).
  • Experience testing and integrating camera SDKs, APIs, and firmware with video management or telemetry software is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with GPS tracking and remote fleet/telemetry integration is a plus.

Soft Skills & Mindset:

  • High sense of urgency with the ability to prioritize and drive tasks to completion in a dynamic manufacturing setting.
  • True hands-on technician mindset — comfortable picking up tools and solving problems on the production floor or via customer support calls.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail (both physical cable management and digital documentation).
  • Comfortable collaborating with software engineers on hardware-software integration and validation.

Software & Other Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (especially Excel and Teams) and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, CAD drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Basic scripting or testing experience (Python, Postman, or similar tools for API/SDK validation) is a plus.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in systems integration, electromechanical assembly/testing, field service, or a similar technical role.
  • Background in solar/off-grid power, mobile surveillance, or related industries is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working at the intersection of hardware and software integration (especially cameras and SDKs) is highly desirable.
  • Must be able to work on-site in Arvada, CO (mandatory overtime may be required during peak production periods).

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus a full benefits package including health insurance, 401(k) matching, and paid time off.
  • Opportunities for growth in a stable, family-owned company where many employees advance from the production floor into leadership roles.
  • Direct impact on innovative products that support transportation safety and infrastructure across the U.S.
  • Collaborative team environment with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.

Salary Range: $65,000-$110,000, depending on experience

Reporting: This position has no direct reports, and reports to the Engineering Director.
