Responsibilities
The Commercial Bodily Injury Claims Manager provides leadership, guidance, and technical expertise to a team of bodily injury and liability claims professionals. This role is responsible for overseeing claim handling activities, supporting complex coverage and liability determinations, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality claim outcomes and exceptional customer service.
Key responsibilities include coaching and developing team members, creating and implementing training and professional development programs, providing technical consultation on coverage and claim-related issues, and assisting with problem resolution. The manager also collaborates with customers, business partners, and internal stakeholders to enhance customer experience, while leading and participating in strategic initiatives designed to improve operational effectiveness, drive continuous improvement, and support the evolving needs of the Claims organization.
Key Functionswill include but not be limited to:
  • Serve as a member of the Claims Leadership Team, contributing to the strategic direction, goals, and continuous improvement of the department.
  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of Commercial Bodily Injury Claims professionals handling non-litigated cases up to $250k, ensuring balanced workload distribution and operational effectiveness.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding claim professionals based on business needs.
  • Provide technical guidance and consultation on claims, helping adjusters resolve issues and achieve optimal claim outcomes.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including Underwriting, Actuarial, and other Claims functions, to identify trends, support best practices, and enhance business performance.
  • Promote excellence in claim handling by developing and reinforcing best practices, technical expertise, and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee the department's claim inventory to ensure timely investigations, accurate coverage analysis, and sound liability determinations.
  • Monitor claim reserves to ensure appropriate exposure recognition and financial stewardship.
  • Ensure claims are evaluated, negotiated, and resolved effectively within established authority levels and organizational guidelines.
  • Drive the identification and pursuit of recovery opportunities.
  • Conduct regular claim quality reviews and audits, providing meaningful coaching, feedback, and development opportunities.
  • Strengthen team capabilities in negotiation, settlement evaluation, and dispute resolution.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency by streamlining processes and leveraging automation where appropriate.
  • Support employee growth through career development planning, mentoring, and ongoing coaching conversations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive, timely, and actionable feedback to foster individual and team success.
  • Serve as a resource for customers and business partners, providing expert guidance and support in escalated or complex situations to ensure a positive customer experience.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree. Insurance designations a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Commercial Auto Bodily Injury claims experience, including meaningful exposure to trucking-related claims.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Bodily Injury leadership or management experience overseeing claims professionals or teams.
  • Strong understanding of commercial transportation and trucking operations; knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR), Hours of Service requirements, and commercial transportation industry resources such as CABis preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex situations, exercise sound judgment, and make independent decisions that achieve positive business outcomes.
  • Proven problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills in a fast-paced claims environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with customers, claimants, attorneys, business partners, and internal stakeholders.

The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full-time regular employees which for this role include:
• Base Salary Range: $120,000 - $145,000
• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus.
• Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, Wellness, Paid Time Off, 401(k) and Profit-Sharing plans.
The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
Additional Requirements
Location: Jacksonville, FL or Cleveland, OH preferred; however, qualified remote candidates will also be considered.
Travel: Up to 15% of travel may be required.
Relocation Assistance: Available for candidates relocating to Jacksonville, FL or Cleveland, OH.
