This position is responsible for following approved procedures, monitoring, servicing, and maintenance of all equipment and systems at the Combined Cycle and Combustion Turbine facility. The selected candidate must be familiar with emergency procedures and is responsible for adherence to all safety procedures including LOTO and proper use personal protective equipment. Core duties include maintenance of plant equipment, troubleshooting, repair, and equipment calibration. The selected candidate must be capable of performing required responsibilities with minimum supervision.
**Depending upon the desired qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at a higher level within the job hierarchy.
Responsibilities
Perform electrical maintenance activities on powerhouse equipment, such as motors, breakers, transformers, electrical relays, switchgear, contactors, etc.
Perform troubleshooting and repair on instrumentation and electrical systems.
Perform troubleshooting and repair on control systems including Ovation, MKVI, and various PLCs.
Perform instrument and device calibrations.
Support mechanical maintenance tasks and develop mechanical maintenance skills.
Support rigging and lifting operations.
Support maintenance team members in major equipment inspections and servicing of pumps, valves, compressors, HRSG’s, gas turbines, etc.
Be trained and knowledgeable in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and electrical maintenance equipment (e.g. hammers, sockets, electrical meters, equipment grounds, etc.).
Work safely and effectively in a multi-craft team environment.
Adhere to all station safety and environmental programs and procedures.
Ability to operate station vehicles such as forklifts, tractors and trucks.
Utilize computers and/or tablets to perform basic functions such timesheet entry, complete computer-based training modules, read company email, document work orders, etc.
Inspect equipment and be able to identify problems.
Perform and follow Lock-Out-Tag-Out procedures on equipment such as HRSGs, steam turbines, gas turbines, pumps valves, and high voltage equipment.
Ability to read and understand technical OEM manuals, recommendations, and warranty agreements.
Ability to read and understand mechanical, civil, and electrical drawings.
Ability to follow technical procedures and instructions.
Basic / Required Qualifications
Associate’s degree and 2 years related work experience
In Lieu of degree, HS Diploma / GED and 2 years related work experience
Additional Required Qualifications:
Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
Lift up to 50 pounds.
Working knowledge of the overall operating fundamentals and principles of generating station systems, equipment, and processes.
Must have the ability to work within a team-oriented environment and demonstrate team interface skills.
Basic computer skills utilizing windows applications, email, and work management software.
Demonstrates skills, attitude, and ability to work safely.
Demonstrates positive attitude, initiative, and the ability to work effectively with others.
Ability to learn quickly and work independently without the need of close supervision.
Demonstrates ability to function well in a diverse team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
3 years of demonstrated instrumentation, controls, and electrical maintenance related work experience.
Experience with digital control systems, programmable logic controllers, and multi-fueled technologies.
Experience and/or training with Ovation, MKVI, and PLC based control systems.
Mechanical maintenance experience.
Demonstrated experience and ability to monitor and troubleshoot equipment in fluid system operation (pumps, valves, boilers, etc.).
Demonstrated experience or training in computer-controlled equipment.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and control logic.
Proficient with computers, software applications, and plant work management software and tools including word, excel, and power point. In addition, experience with work management systems such as Maximo or equivalent.
Additional years of experience with combustion turbine / combined cycle technology.
Experience with mechanical and electronic testing equipment.
Knowledge of cranes, rigging, and lifting requirements.
Work Conditions:
Onsite Mobility Classification– Work will be performed at a company facility.
Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel push, pull climb ladders, work in extreme heat or cold, walk/work on grating surfaces at extreme heights.
Required to work in all areas of the power plant, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year-includes exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust and humidity.
Frequent weekend and holiday work.
May be exposed to high stress situations and required to be available for emergency response as needed.
Potential shift work.
Able to work/respond on short notice to support planned/unplanned/emergency site events.
Required to wear a respirator and must be able to successfully complete a physical and respirator fit test on annual or as needed basis.
Must be able to work at heights, from suspended work platforms and in confined spaces.
Willing to travel approximately 5-10% for training and assist other Duke Energy Carolinas Combustion Turbine sites when required.
Exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF).
Will be required to climb ladders and stairs at various heights; enter vessels or equipment with limited access.
Specific Requirements
Must have a valid driver's license.
Must successfully complete EEi's Plant Operator Selection System (POSS), and Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS).
Must successfully complete a Power Plant Physical Abilities Assessment.
Required to pass a medical physical including a respirator fit test.
Ability to successfully complete levels of Employee Development and Qualification Program training.
Ability to work around equipment that generates electromagnetic fields (EMF).
This position contains a weight restriction of 325 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.
