Job description

Control Center Operator

Shift Opening(s):

  • Full-Time Monday - Sunday Various Days/ 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts.
  • Must be available to work morning, evening, and night shifts on a 3-to-4-month rotation.
  • Evening and Night shifts will receive an additional $1.00 / hour shift differential increase.

Rate of Pay: $20–$27.15

About the Job

DK Security is seeking qualified professionals to join our Central Control team. While employees are hired and employed by DK Security, they are assigned to Central Control, the Security Operations Center supporting State of Michigan facilities. Operators work alongside State of Michigan personnel and under the day-to-day operational direction of Central Control leadership to provide exceptional service.

DTMB Central Control is a 24/7/365 operation that provides security and life safety systems monitoring and emergency response coordination for DTMB-managed properties. Central Control also serves as a central point of contact for agency security information and requests. Central Control team members monitor security and life safety systems and initiate response, monitor security cameras, provide emergency response coordination and communication, act as a central point of contact for agency security inquiries and requests, assist building operations with after-hours support, and are responsible for security equipment cleaning, inventory and testing.

Military veterans and people with security, firefighting, department of corrections, or law enforcement experience are encouraged to apply.

Keys to Control Center Operator success:

  • Be computer literate and able to use standard office software.
  • Dress professionally and have excellent personal hygiene and grooming standards.
  • Have excellent customer service and phone skills.
  • Remain calm in emergencies and able to de-escalate situations.
  • Commit to working with the team, studying and applying post guidelines and job duties with high accuracy.
  • Pay attention to detail.

Common Duties Include:

  • Receive and process emergency information and requests such as medical emergencies, threats of violence, suspicious activity, suspicious packages, fire, and weather emergencies.
  • Initiate emergency response efforts based on available information, established procedures, and best practices.
  • Coordinate response efforts and share information with a variety of stakeholders including law enforcement, emergency dispatchers, fire fighters, medics, security guards, facilities supervisors, management, etc.
  • Draft and send emergency response communications and after-action reports.
  • Utilize security systems to monitor and facilitate emergency response efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Intermediate computer skills required – Comfortable with Microsoft Office, Email, Internet, and able to learn new software.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have at least a high school diploma or equivalent education certification, such as a GED, per MCL 338.1067 §17(2).
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening at the time of hire and randomly thereafter (including for marijuana).
  • Must not have been convicted of any felonies, per MCL 338.1060 §10(1)(c).
  • Must not have been convicted of any misdemeanors related to dishonesty, fraud, impersonation of law enforcement, assault, weapons, unauthorized sale of information or evidence, controlled substances (including for marijuana), or two or more alcohol related offenses, per MCL 338.1060 §10(1)(c).
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk, including up and down stairs, for 8-12 hours at a time.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Must be CPR, First Aid, and AED certified (Child, Infant, and Adult), or willing to become certified and be physically capable of administering lifesaving care when needed.
  • Must be able to see clearly at least 20 feet away (assisted with glasses or contact lenses if necessary).
  • Must be able to hear conversations in loud environments either in-person or via radio.
  • Must be able to use a smart mobile phone and computer to type, check and respond to emails, and complete online training.
  • Must be able to fluently read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
