Position Summary

The Palliative Director of Clinical Services - Interdisciplinary (DCSI). Palliative Director of Clinical Services (DCS) is a leadership role responsible for modeling and promoting the core values of Compassus, including Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation. The DCS will uphold the Code of Ethical Conduct and foster positive relationships within the organization, across departments, and with external stakeholders. The DCS will oversee the interdisciplinary team (IDT), ensuring that palliative services are delivered in a manner that aligns with Compassus' guidelines, policies, and the needs of patients and families. The DCS will also collaborate with hospice managers, business offices, physicians, and external agencies.


Position Specific Responsibilities

  • Supervise up to 20 team members, including all members of the IDT.

  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, performance evaluations, and if necessary, terminating staff (with administrative approval).

  • Guide the team by planning, assigning, and directing work, ensuring that work is completed efficiently, addressing complaints, and resolving conflicts.

  • Supervise up to 20 team members, including all members of the IDT.

  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, performance evaluations, and if necessary, terminating staff (with administrative approval).

  • Guide the team by planning, assigning, and directing work, ensuring that work is completed efficiently, addressing complaints, and resolving conflicts.

  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, and relevant state and federal regulations.

  • Oversee consultative processes between the Medical Director and the IDT team, ensuring appropriate care orders and interventions are executed for patient needs, especially when attending physicians are unavailable.

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of state regulations governing the supervision of all IDT members.

  • Lead and participate in meetings with the palliative care team, ensuring that patient care needs are thoroughly discussed and addressed.

  • Facilitate required documentation of patient-centered plans of care for non-nursing support services, including any changes in care levels, family support, and other essential interventions.

  • Ensure the completion of patient plans of care for non-nursing support services, are completed and updated in a timely manner.

  • Oversee the 24/7 availability of hospice services, ensuring adequate staffing and resources.

  • Manage scheduling, productivity, performance reviews, team support, and other operational aspects for the IDT teams.

  • Supports workflow management in EMR by completing all required tasks outside of orders and tasks requiring RN licensure

  • Ensure efficient utilization of resources, including managing program mileage and labor to meet budget expectations.

  • Supervise the care of palliative patients per the established plan of care for support team services, ensuring appropriate continuity, service, and quality

  • Engage in patient care when needed, including conducting routine and discharge support visits, as required by licensing standards.


Education and/or Experience

  • Required: Associate or bachelor's degree in healthcare or a related field.

  • Required: Minimum of three years of healthcare experience, preferably in a hospice, palliative, home health, or related setting.

  • Preferred: Leadership or management experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in hospice/palliative care.

  • Preferred: Experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.


Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Active state licensure in healthcare required.

  • Preferred: Certification in Hospice and Palliative Care.


Physical Demands and Work Environment: The demands of this role necessitate a team member to effectively perform essential functions. Adaptations can be made to accommodate team members with disabilities. Regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity are fundamental, along with the ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity requirements include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. In a healthcare setting, exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, and conditions typical to the field is expected. Routine use of standard medical equipment and tools associated with clinical care is essential. Compensation range: $124,695-$164,695

The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities
