Job Description
The Director 2 - School Choice Operations supports the Executive Director of School Choice by providing strategic leadership and management for School Choice operations, ensuring the successful execution of the PreK-12 School Choice application process for over 20,000 families across HISD. This position collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, partners with vendors to enhance application platforms, and leads data analysis and training initiatives. The Director plays a critical role in achieving strategic goals, optimizing processes, and enhancing the overall experience for families and schools.

Responsibilities
  1. Oversee the successful launch and management of the PreK-12 School Choice application for more than 20,000 families across HISD, ensuring alignment with the Executive Director's vision.
  2. Collaborate with external vendors to design and implement platform enhancements that support strategic priorities and improve user experience.
  3. Collect, analyze, and interpret school choice data to measure impact, identify trends, and inform decision-making for operational improvements, providing regular reports and feedback to the Executive Director.
  4. Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for campus-based stakeholders and families, ensuring clear communication and understanding of the school choice process.
  5. Manage communication strategies to engage stakeholders, addressing questions, concerns, and feedback throughout the application cycle.
  6. Implement strategies to support equitable access to school choice opportunities, focusing on outreach to underrepresented communities.
  7. Monitor application trends and resolve escalated issues related to the School Choice process to ensure a smooth experience for families and schools.
  8. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the effectiveness of school choice operations and report findings to the Executive Director.

Job Qualifications
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; master's degree preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role, preferably within a similar industry or organization.
TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans. Demonstrated track record of successfully leading and managing teams, fostering a high-performance culture. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels. Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Knowledge of education regulations, compliance standards, and best practices related to school choice operations. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and practices. Professional certifications or memberships relevant to the education industry or leadership role are desirable.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
-Provides strategic oversight for school choice operations in alignment with the Executive Director's vision. Implements initiatives and ensures integration of objectives within the School Choice department.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
-Work is non-standardized and widely varied, involving many complex and significant variables including significant time spent planning, evaluating solutions, and negotiating outcomes. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on significant matters related to school choice operations while consulting with the Executive Director on key decisions.
BUDGET AUTHORITY
-Participates in a group plan and/or budget development.
PROBLEM SOLVING
While identifying new solutions and improving processes, this role collaborates with the Executive Director on significant decisions that impact multiple departments.
IMPACT OF DECISIONS
Decisions have considerable impact on multiple divisions or the district, influencing operations, relationships, and financial outcomes. Errors may result in significant project delays or costs.
COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS
-Negotiate and influence - interpret department strategies and services, resolves conflicts, influences outcomes on matters of significance for the division, conducts final negotiations and coordinates approvals/decision making below the executive level. Interactions are typically with customers and Top Management.
CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
Regularly assesses and resolves complex customer issues. Takes accountability for addressing systemic customer service challenges and explores alternative solutions within HISD's policies and guidelines.
WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
-Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
