Job description

Payroll Accountant
Position Location: Baltimore, MD
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm
Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 annually
Join the Chimes team and help make an impact through accurate financial stewardship.
What You'll Do
As our Payroll Accountant, you will:
  • Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries.
  • Review payroll taxes and ensure timely and accurate tax payments.
  • Review federal and state payroll tax filings for accuracy and compliance.
  • Post payroll activity to the general ledger.
  • Reconcile payroll bank accounts and assigned general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare payroll accruals and month-end journal entries.
  • Assist with month-end close activities and financial reporting.
  • Perform payroll-related variance analysis.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Process state unemployment payments for multiple entities.
  • Assist with other accounting and finance projects as needed.

What You'll Bring
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.

Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience.
  • Nonprofit accounting experience is preferred.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and payroll accounting.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills with advanced Excel proficiency.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines, especially during month-end close.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
