Description
Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences at Chapman University invites applications for a non-tenure track appointment as Program Director/Chair in Physician Assistant Studies, beginning August 1, 2027.
Chapman University is a nationally ranked, R2 Carnegie Classified, private institution offering traditional undergraduate and graduate programs in the heart of Orange County, one of Southern California's most diverse and vibrant regions. Chapman's campuses are home to nearly 10,000 students representing fifty states, three territories, and eighty-seven countries. The eleven schools and colleges of Chapman, including Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, offer sixty-five bachelors, fifty-three masters, and six doctoral programs, along with nearly sixty minors and seventeen accelerated and bridge programs. Classes are taught by the more than 1,100 dedicated faculty members who are leaders in their fields, including Nobel Prize recipients, MacArthur Fellows, National Medal of Science honorees, former U.S. Supreme Court clerks, and Emmy, Grammy, and Academy Award winners.
The Department of Physician Assistant Studies is located on the Rinker Health Science campus in Irvine, CA. The campus is designed to foster an inter-professional educational environment and to use innovative technology in teaching and practice. The campus features state of the art facilities, including a human cadaver anatomy laboratory, advanced learning center with innovative technology, Grand Rounds auditorium with 3D projection capabilities, multi-sized classrooms, a medical library, and collaborative work centers. The campus is home to several accredited graduate health science professional programs, including Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Master of Science Physician Assistant Studies, and Doctor of Pharmacy. The Rinker campus is strategically located near healthcare institutions, medical device and biopharmaceutical companies. The PA Studies Program has achieved Accreditation-Continued from the ARC-PA through 2030. US News and World Report ranked the PA program 58th in the nation in 2025. The first cohort of PAs graduated in 2018, and the program graduates 50 PA students each year. The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA) has granted Accreditation -Continued status to the Chapman University-Crean College MMS PA Studies Program sponsored by Chapman University. Accreditation-Continued is an accreditation status granted when a currently accredited program is in compliance with the ARC-PA Standards. Accreditation remains in effect until the program closes or withdraws from the accreditation process or until accreditation is withdrawn for failure to comply with the Standards. The approximate date for the next validation review of the program by the ARC-PA will be 2030. The review date is contingent upon continued compliance with the Accreditation Standards and ARC-PA policy. The program's accreditation history can be viewed on the ARC-PA website at http://www.arc-pa.org/accreditation-history-chapman-university.
Program Director/Chair Major Responsibilities
  1. Leads the strategic development and direction of the PA program.
  2. Communicates program outcomes, opportunities, aspirations, and needs to the college administration, university leadership, and external community.
  3. Oversees all aspects of accreditation reporting, re-accreditation planning, self-study, and site-visit.
  4. Fosters curriculum innovation and assessment.
  5. Maintains stellar student outcomes
  6. Evaluates, develops, hires, and retains faculty and staff
  7. Manages the program budget

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  1. Doctoral-level degree preferred, with PA-C, with at least two years of leadership and administrative experience in PA education.
  2. Background appropriate for an appointment as a non-tenure track Clinical Professor.
  3. Teaching experience in PA education.
  4. Evidence of dynamic leadership embracing data-driven decision making.
  5. Embraces collaborative work with the college's chairs, associate deans, and the dean's office staff.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Ability to incorporate technology with instruction is strongly preferred.
  2. Preference will be given to candidates who hold doctoral or other graduate degrees that complement the PA Studies Program curriculum.
  3. Awareness of current trends in PA education, including the ethical use of AI in the didactic and clinical portions of the curriculum.

Successful completion of a background check is required for the final candidate. The salary range for this position is $200,000 to $235,000, with the highest salary reserved for the most experienced candidate. This position is contingent on final budget approval.
