Title: Senior Network Engineer (Juniper / VMware)
Location: Oakland, CA (On-site, near 19th St BART)
Type: Contract (up to ~6 months / 1000 hours; potential extension based on budget/need)
Schedule: Full-time, On-site | Compressed schedule - every other Friday off
About the role
We're hiring a Senior Network Engineer to support a mission-driven public-sector organization. This is a hands-on infrastructure role for a senior-level professional who can assess issues, develop a plan, and execute independently.
The first 30-60 days will focus heavily on stabilizing and cleaning up a VMware environment, alongside core Juniper networking support.
What you'll do
  • Provide Tier 3-level network and infrastructure support
  • Troubleshoot and remediate VMware issues (vMotion/interface-related errors, stabilization work)
  • Support and maintain Juniper-based network infrastructure
  • Assist with routing/switching, QoS, VoIP/video support as needed
  • Support firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and general network operations
  • Participate in downtime planning and infrastructure coordination
Required qualifications
  • 5+ years senior networking experience
  • Strong hands-on Juniper experience
  • Strong VMware experience
  • Working knowledge of Windows infrastructure
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight
Nice to have
  • Police/public safety infrastructure experience
  • Security camera systems experience (Milestone, Axis)
  • Experience with QoS/VoIP/video
  • Packet capture tools (Wireshark, TCPDump, OmniPeek)

  • On-site in Oakland (near 19th St BART)
