Job description

We are seeking an experienced Low Voltage Security Systems Design Engineer to join our team in the Orange County/Brea, CA area. You will design and deliver security solutions for commercial and institutional clients using Avigilon, Hanwha, and Axis for video surveillance, and Software House (CCURE 9000), Lenel, and Genetec for access control. This role requires both technical depth and strong project coordination skills.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design & Engineering:

  • Develop complete CCTV and access control system designs for projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Produce system drawings, including floor plans, riser diagrams, device layouts, and cabling schedules using AutoCAD.
  • Design solutions on Avigilon, Hanwha, and Axis camera platforms; configure camera types, resolutions, and analytics per site requirements.
  • Design access control systems on Software House CCURE 9000, Lenel OnGuard, and Genetec Security Center, including door hardware schedules and panel layouts.
  • Perform FOV calculations, bandwidth/storage estimates, and review designs for code compliance and AHJ requirements.
  • Prepare submittal packages, shop drawings, and as-built documentation.

2. Project Coordination & Documentation:

  • Participate in project turnover, design review, and site survey meetings; coordinate with engineers, architects, and subcontractors.
  • Communicate design progress, scope revisions, and costs to Project Managers; facilitate permits and AHJ coordination.
  • Prepare material procurement packages and assist with change-order pricing; support the sales team with design input and equipment selection.
  • Maintain project documentation, programming graphics, and O&M manuals to company and project standards.
  • May provide guidance and work direction to junior designers or CAD technicians.

Qualifications:

1. Required:

  • 3-5 years of experience in low-voltage security systems design or a related engineering role.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (2018 or later), including layers, xrefs, dimensioning, and block libraries.
  • Hands-on design experience with at least one CCTV platform: Avigilon, Hanwha, or Axis.
  • Hands-on design experience with at least one access control platform: Software House CCURE 9000, Lenel OnGuard, or Genetec Security Center.
  • Working knowledge of IP networking fundamentals (VLANs, PoE, NVR/VMS architecture) and low voltage cabling (Cat6, fiber, coax).
  • Ability to read architectural and electrical drawings; familiarity with NEC Article 725/800 and UL standards.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.

2. Preferred:

  • Industry certifications: NICET Level II (Electronic Safety & Security), PSP, or manufacturer certifications (Avigilon, Genetec, Axis).
  • Experience with intrusion detection systems (DSC, Bosch, Honeywell) and electrified door hardware/OSDP reader technology.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu or similar PDF markup tools.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive base salary: $90,000 - $115,000 annually, depending on certifications, experience, and a successful interview.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance for employees and eligible dependents.
  • Paid time off (PTO) plus paid company holidays.
  • Professional development support, including manufacturer training, certification reimbursement (NICET, PSP, and others), and ongoing education assistance.
  • Company vehicle or mileage reimbursement for job site travel.
