At Atlas we understand that our future is everyone's responsibility, and we create a better experience at every stage of a project.
Job Description
At Atlas, we're providing services that enable communities to flourish and thrive, and if you're looking for a Geotechnical Engineer role with a focus on CMT operations and committed to doing meaningful work, then this is your moment. You'll manage geotechnical projects end to end, supporting field and lab programs, reporting, construction services, proposals, and safety compliance.
Join a dynamic, value-driven, client- and community-focused environment where your work creates a lasting positive impact for the people and communities we serve.
Core Responsibilities
  • Manage geotechnical projects from proposal through completion, including planning, field execution, budgets, schedules, and deliverable quality.
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and interpreting geotechnical field and laboratory programs (SPT borings, test pits, percolation tests, pavement/earthwork evaluations, and ground improvement support as applicable).
  • Prepare and support preparation of geotechnical engineering reports, calculations, and recommendations (foundation, earthwork, and site development), with QA/QC review support from senior staff.
  • Provide construction phase services: site visits, earthwork/foundation observations, pavement evaluations as needed, issue resolution, and clear communication of recommendations.
  • Support CMT operations: assist with scheduling, technician coordination, daily field coverage, reporting turnaround, and client responsiveness.
  • Assist with proposal preparation and business development support (scope write-ups, fee inputs, client communications, and follow-ups).
  • Promote and follow safety procedures in both field and office operations, support job hazard analyses and safe work practices.

You'll thrive here if you have
  • B.S in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical emphasis) or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4-5+ years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering and construction-phase services (CMT), including subsurface exploration, analysis/evaluation, and report preparation.
  • Proven ability to manage small to medium geotechnical projects (scope, schedule, budget awareness, coordination, deliverables).
  • Working knowledge of Florida/South Florida subsurface conditions and standard industry practices.
  • Engineer Intern (E.I./EIT) required; Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.
  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to produce clear geotechnical reports, logs, and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks/projects and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Valid driver's license: ability to travel locally/regionally within Florida as needed.
  • Plan and execute geotechnical investigations: develop field programs, coordinate drillers/labs, oversee SPT borings/test pits, document conditions, and troubleshoot field issues.
  • Demonstrated experience with CMT operations: scheduling/dispatch awareness, technician oversight, daily field reporting, non-conformance documentation, and coordination with contractors/clients for rework and resolution.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, including soil and rock mechanics and groundwater conditions typical of South Florida.
  • Perform and support engineering evaluation, recommendations for shallow and deep foundations, site earthwork, pavement, and ground improvement concepts.
  • Contribute to preparation of geotechnical reports, proposals, calculations, and related technical documentation, ensuring quality and timely deliverables.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead and direct technicians, coordinate with clients/contractors, and work effectively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency with common geotechnical engineering software and tools.
  • Strong ownership mentality: dependable, organized, responsive, and able to handle shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to pass a background check for clearance to work on various private and government projects.
