Job description

Our client, a leader in the autonomous mobility industry, is seeking a Firmware Validation Engineer to join their team. As a Firmware Validation Engineer, you will be part of the Firmware - Connectivity and Audio team supporting validation and testing of embedded firmware for connected vehicle experiences. The ideal candidate will demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, proactive problem-solving skills, and effective communication abilities, which will align successfully in the organization.

Job Title: Firmware Validation Engineer

Location:Foster City, CA

Pay Range:$100-$105/hour + Benefits

What's the Job?

  • Execute manual feature validation including functional, integration, regression, and exploratory testing for Audio and streaming features both on bench and in-vehicle environments.
  • Develop and expand test content by authoring new test cases and maintaining current test documentation as features evolve.
  • Identify untested or under-tested paths within existing test suites and systematically add coverage to ensure comprehensive validation.
  • Perform root cause analysis by reproducing defects, analyzing logs (Wireshark, DLT, ADB, HCI/Bluetooth traces, vehicle logs), and isolating issues before escalation.
  • Manage field issue triage for Audio and Streaming features, reproducing issues in lab, narrowing scope, and collaborating with support and firmware teams to drive resolution.

What's Needed?

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with 8+ years of hands-on validation/QA experience in firmware or embedded products.
  • Proven experience in writing and executing test plans, closing coverage gaps, and managing defect lifecycles effectively.
  • Hands-on validation experience in connectivity domains such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LTE/5G, GNSS, or vehicle networking.
  • Strong log triage and debugging skills with familiarity in tools like Wireshark, DLT, ADB, and similar diagnostics tools.
  • Experience with field defect reproduction and isolation, along with proficiency in Python scripting for automation and log parsing on Linux/Ubuntu systems.
