Job description

Position Overview

The Lennon Distinguished Professor in Epidemiology is a prestigious academic appointment in the Department of Animal Sciences, within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at North Carolina A&T State University. The position, which is a nine‑month tenure‑track faculty appointment, will lead interdisciplinary research on disease emergence, transmission dynamics, and public health implications. The holder will advance teaching and curriculum related to animal health, disease, and related areas, and support the development of an interdisciplinary graduate certificate in One Health.

Minimum Requirements

Academic Qualifications: Doctoral degree (DVM or Ph.D.) in Epidemiology, Veterinary Public Health, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

Professional Status

Eligible for appointment as a full professor with tenure at North Carolina A&T State University, with a nationally recognized record of exemplary scholarly achievement, peer‑reviewed publications, research leadership, and external funding success.

Research and Teaching Experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in leading impactful, externally funded research programs in veterinary epidemiology or related areas.
  • A history of teaching and mentoring undergraduate, graduate, and professional students in epidemiology, public health, or veterinary science.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary research and commitment to the One Health approach.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training, Education

Experience: At least 10 years of post‑doctoral academic or research experience, including a tenured faculty role and preferably in a leadership or administrative capacity.

  • Expertise in veterinary disease modeling, outbreak investigations, and surveillance systems.
  • Experience with One Health initiatives and collaborations with medical, environmental, and public health sectors.
  • Proven success in securing grants from USDA, NIH, CDC, or related agencies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines and with community and industry stakeholders.
Required License or Certification

Certification (Preferred): Board certification in veterinary preventive medicine or epidemiology (e.g., ACVPM) is highly desirable.
